正如經上所記：「我已經指派你為眾多民族的父。」亞伯拉罕所信的那一位，就是叫死人得生命、使無變為有的神。亞伯拉罕在沒有盼望的時候，仍然懷著盼望去相信，因而成為眾多民族的父，正如先前所說：「你的後裔將要如此眾多。」他快到一百歲的時候，想到自己的身體如同已經死了，又想到撒拉也已經不能生育，但是他的信仰卻沒有軟弱。他也沒有因著不信去懷疑神的應許，反而因著信得以剛強，把榮耀歸給神，並且確信不疑：神所應許的，神也能成就。因此，這就被算為他的義了。不但如此，「被算為他的義」這句話不僅是為亞伯拉罕寫的，也是為我們寫的；我們信靠使我們的主耶穌從死人中復活的那一位，就將被算為義。主耶穌被交出去，是為了我們的過犯；復活，是為了我們稱義。

藉著你，我們衝垮我們的敵人；奉你的名，我們踐踏那些起來攻擊我們的人；因為我不是依靠我的弓，我的刀劍也不能拯救我。然而你拯救我們脫離我們的敵人，使恨我們的人蒙羞。

亞伯拉罕認為，神真的能使人從死人中復活。故此，用比喻來說，他真的從死人中得回了以撒。

不過我們有這寶物在瓦器裡，為要顯明這極大的能力是出於神，不是出於我們。

心裡依靠自己的，是愚昧人；藉著智慧行事的，必蒙拯救。

耶穌還對某些自以為義而藐視其他人的，講了這個比喻：

並且為了不讓我因這些極大的啟示而高抬自己，有一根刺加在我的肉體上，就是撒旦的使者來擊打我，免得我高抬自己。為了這事，我三次求主使這根刺離開我。但他對我說：「我的恩典是夠你用的，因為我的大能在軟弱中得以完全。」因此，我反而極其樂意地誇耀我的那些軟弱，好讓基督的能力遮蓋在我身上。所以，為了基督的緣故，我在那些軟弱中、凌辱中、艱難中、在逼迫和困苦中，都感到喜悅；因為我什麼時候軟弱，什麼時候就剛強了。

地上所有豐足的人都要來吃喝敬拜；所有下入塵土的——不能保住自己性命的人，都要在他面前屈身。

照著經上所記的：「我信，故我說」，我們既然有同一個信仰的靈，我們也就信，所以也就說，因為我們知道：使主耶穌復活的那一位，也要使我們與耶穌一同復活，並且使我們和你們一起站在他面前。
