Now I call upon God as my witness that I am telling the truth. The reason I didn’t return to Corinth was to spare you from a severe rebuke.

I call God as my witness— and I stake my life on it— that it was in order to spare you that I did not return to Corinth.

I call God to be my witness. May he take my life if I’m lying. I wanted to spare you, so I didn’t return to Corinth.

But I call God to witness against me— it was to spare you that I refrained from coming again to Corinth.

I call on God as a witness, on my life, that it was to spare you that I did not come to Corinth.

But I call God as witness to my soul, that it was to spare you that I did not come again to Corinth.

Moreover I call God as witness against my soul, that to spare you I came no more to Corinth.

But I call God for a witness upon my soul, that to spare you I forbare to come unto Corinth.

I call on God as a witness, on my life, that it was to spare you that I did not come to Corinth.

Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth.

Now I appeal to God as my witness, that to spare you I did not come again to Corinth.

But I call God for a witness to my soul, that I didn’t come to Corinth to spare you.

God knows how often I pray for you. Day and night I bring you and your needs in prayer to God, whom I serve with all my heart by spreading the Good News about his Son.

I declare before God that what I am writing to you is not a lie.

Which do you choose? Should I come with a rod to punish you, or should I come with love and a gentle spirit?

I have already warned those who had been sinning when I was there on my second visit. Now I again warn them and all others, just as I did before, that next time I will not spare them.

I am writing this to you before I come, hoping that I won’t need to deal severely with you when I do come. For I want to use the authority the Lord has given me to strengthen you, not to tear you down.

Never once did we try to win you with flattery, as you well know. And God is our witness that we were not pretending to be your friends just to get your money!

And after you have become fully obedient, we will punish everyone who remains disobedient.Look at the obvious facts. Those who say they belong to Christ must recognize that we belong to Christ as much as they do.I may seem to be boasting too much about the authority given to us by the Lord. But our authority builds you up; it doesn’t tear you down. So I will not be ashamed of using my authority.I’m not trying to frighten you by my letters.For some say,“ Paul’s letters are demanding and forceful, but in person he is weak, and his speeches are worthless!”Those people should realize that our actions when we arrive in person will be as forceful as what we say in our letters from far away.

Why? Because I don’t love you? God knows that I do.

God knows how much I love you and long for you with the tender compassion of Christ Jesus.

For I am afraid that when I come I won’t like what I find, and you won’t like my response. I am afraid that I will find quarreling, jealousy, anger, selfishness, slander, gossip, arrogance, and disorderly behavior.

God, the Father of our Lord Jesus, who is worthy of eternal praise, knows I am not lying.

So I decided that I would not bring you grief with another painful visit.For if I cause you grief, who will make me glad? Certainly not someone I have grieved.That is why I wrote to you as I did, so that when I do come, I won’t be grieved by the very ones who ought to give me the greatest joy. Surely you all know that my joy comes from your being joyful.

Then you must throw this man out and hand him over to Satan so that his sinful nature will be destroyed and he himself will be saved on the day the Lord returns.

Well, I am begging you now so that when I come I won’t have to be bold with those who think we act from human motives.

With Christ as my witness, I speak with utter truthfulness. My conscience and the Holy Spirit confirm it.

Hymenaeus and Alexander are two examples. I threw them out and handed them over to Satan so they might learn not to blaspheme God.

As surely as God is faithful, our word to you does not waver between“ Yes” and“ No.”
