But Solomon did not make slaves of the Israelites for his work; they were his fighting men, commanders of his captains, and commanders of his chariots and charioteers.

But Solomon didn’t force the Israelites to work as his slaves. Instead, some were his fighting men. Others were commanders of his captains, chariots and chariot drivers.

“如果你们的同胞穷得把自己卖给你们，不可把他当作奴隶，要待他像雇工和寄居者一样。他要为你工作到禧年。到了禧年，他和孩子们便可以离开你们，回到自己的宗族和祖业。因为以色列人是我的仆人，是我从埃及带出来的，所以他们不可卖身为奴。你们也不可苛待他们，要敬畏你们的上帝。你们可以从邻国购买奴隶，也可以买居住或出生在你们境内的外族人。这些人可以作你们的产业。你们可以将他们作为产业传给你们的子孙，使他们终身做奴隶。但你们不可苛待自己的同胞。

那天上的耶路撒冷则是自由的，是我们的母亲。

“将来管辖你们的王会征用你们的儿子做他的战车兵、骑兵，要他们跑在他的战车前面。他会派一些人做千夫长、五十夫长，一些人为他耕种田地、收割庄稼，一些人制造兵器和战车的装备。
