and he said,“ Lord, God of our fathers, are You not God in the heavens? And are You not ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in Your hand so that no one can stand against You.Did You not, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land from Your people Israel, and give it to the descendants of Your friend Abraham forever?They have lived in it, and have built You a sanctuary in it for Your name, saying,‘ If disaster comes upon us, the sword, or judgment, or plague, or famine, we will stand before this house and before You( for Your name is in this house), and cry out to You in our distress, and You will hear and save us.’Now behold, the sons of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, whom You did not allow Israel to invade when they came out of the land of Egypt( for they turned aside from them and did not destroy them),see how they are rewarding us by coming to drive us out from Your possession which You have given us as an inheritance.Our God, will You not judge them? For we are powerless before this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on You.”All Judah was standing before the Lord, with their infants, their wives, and their children.

But King Hezekiah and Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, prayed about this and called out to heaven for help.And the Lord sent an angel who destroyed every warrior, commander, and officer in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned in shame to his own land. And when he had entered the temple of his god, some of his own sons killed him there with the sword.

Deuteronomy 20:1-4
“ When you go out to battle against your enemies and see horses, chariots, and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt, is with you.When you are approaching the battle, the priest shall come forward and speak to the people.He shall say to them,‘ Hear, Israel, you are approaching the battle against your enemies today. Do not be fainthearted. Do not be afraid, or panic, or be terrified by them,for the Lord your God is the One who is going with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’

Joshua 8:1-8
Now the Lord said to Joshua,“ Do not fear or be dismayed. Take all the people of war with you. Arise, go up to Ai; see, I have handed over to you the king of Ai, his people, his city, and his land.You shall do to Ai and its king just as you did to Jericho and its king; you shall take only its spoils and its cattle as plunder for yourselves. Set an ambush for the city behind it.”So Joshua rose up with all the people of war to go up to Ai; and Joshua chose thirty thousand men, valiant warriors, and sent them out at night.He commanded them, saying,“ See, you are going to ambush the city from behind it. Do not go very far from the city, but all of you be ready.Then I and all the people who are with me will approach the city. And when they come out to meet us as they did the first time, we will flee before them.They will come out after us until we have lured them away from the city, for they will say,‘ They are fleeing before us just as they did the first time.’ So we will flee before them.Then you shall rise from your ambush and take possession of the city, for the Lord your God will hand it over to you.Then it will be when you have seized the city, that you shall set the city on fire. You shall do it in accordance with the word of the Lord. See, I have commanded you.”

Now Zerah the Ethiopian went out against them with an army of a million men and three hundred chariots, and he came to Mareshah.So Asa went out to meet him, and they drew up in battle formation in the Valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said,“ Lord, there is no one besides You to help in the battle between the powerful and those who have no strength; help us, Lord our God, for we trust in You, and in Your name have come against this multitude. Lord, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You.”So the Lord routed the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah, and the Ethiopians fled.
