“人若是得罪了鄰舍，有人要他起誓，他就來到這殿，在你的祭壇前起誓；

“ When someone is accused of sinning against his neighbor and the latter pronounces a curse on the alleged offender before your altar in this temple,

兩人必須在耶和華面前起誓，表明他沒有下手拿去鄰舍的財物；如果物主接受那誓言，看守的人就不必賠償。

祭司要叫那婦人起誓，對她說：‘如果沒有人與你同寢，作妻子時沒有背棄丈夫被人玷污，你就免受這使人招致咒詛的苦水。但是，如果你作妻子時背棄了丈夫，被人玷污了；如果你在你的丈夫以外，曾與別的男人同寢’，這樣，祭司就要叫那婦人發咒起誓，繼續對她說：‘耶和華要使你的大腿消瘦，肚腹腫脹；願耶和華叫你在你的族人中成為咒詛和起誓的話柄；願這招致咒詛的水進入你的腹中，使你的肚腹腫脹，大腿消瘦。’那婦人要說：‘阿們、阿們。’

“如果有人犯罪：他聽見發誓的聲音（“發誓的聲音”或譯：“傳召作證的聲音”，或“發咒語的聲音”）；他本是證人，卻不肯把看見或知道的說出來，他就要擔當自己的罪責。

你們又說：‘凡指著祭壇所起的誓，是沒有用的；但指著壇上的祭物所起的誓，就必須遵守。’

免得我吃飽了，就不認你，說：‘耶和華是誰？’又恐怕我貧窮，就偷竊，污瀆了我神的名。

“如果有人得罪他的鄰居被迫起誓，他來到這殿在你的祭壇前起誓的時候，求你在天上垂聽，採取行動，審判你的僕人，定惡人有罪，使他所行的，都歸到他自己的頭上。定義人有理，照著他的公義賞賜他。
