[ There was] nothing in the ark save the two tables which Moses put[ therein] at Horeb, when the LORD made[ a covenant] with the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt.

Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day[ that] I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:But this[ shall be] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony[ were] in his hand: the tables[ were] written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other[ were] they written.And the tables[ were] the work of God, and the writing[ was] the writing of God, graven upon the tables.

Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth[ is] mine:

But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.For if that first[ covenant] had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.For this[ is] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.In that he saith, A new[ covenant], he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old[ is] ready to vanish away.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first: and I will write upon[ these] tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou brakest.

And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses’ anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.

And he took and put the testimony into the ark, and set the staves on the ark, and put the mercy seat above upon the ark:

Ye stand this day all of you before the LORD your God; your captains of your tribes, your elders, and your officers,[ with] all the men of Israel,Your little ones, your wives, and thy stranger that[ is] in thy camp, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water:That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the LORD thy God, and into his oath, which the LORD thy God maketh with thee this day:That he may establish thee to day for a people unto himself, and[ that] he may be unto thee a God, as he hath said unto thee, and as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath;

These[ are] the words of the covenant, which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, beside the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.

And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient.And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled[ it] on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words.
