There wasn’t anything in the ark except the two tablets. Moses had placed them in it at Mount Horeb. That’s where the Lord had made a covenant with the Israelites. He made it after they came out of Egypt.

耶和華說：「日子將到，我要與以色列家和猶大家另立新約，不像我拉着他們祖宗的手，領他們出埃及地的時候，與他們所立的約。我雖作他們的丈夫，他們卻背了我的約。這是耶和華說的。」耶和華說：「那些日子以後，我與以色列家所立的約乃是這樣：我要將我的律法放在他們裏面，寫在他們心上。我要作他們的神，他們要作我的子民。他們各人不再教導自己的鄰舍和自己的弟兄說：『你該認識耶和華』，因為他們從最小的到至大的都必認識我。我要赦免他們的罪孽，不再記念他們的罪惡。這是耶和華說的。」

耶和華在西奈山和摩西說完了話，就把兩塊法版交給他，是神用指頭寫的石版。

摩西轉身下山，手裏拿着兩塊法版。這版是兩面寫的，這面那面都有字，是神的工作，字是神寫的，刻在版上。

如今你們若實在聽從我的話，遵守我的約，就要在萬民中作屬我的子民，因為全地都是我的。

如今耶穌所得的職任是更美的，正如他作更美之約的中保；這約原是憑更美之應許立的。那前約若沒有瑕疵，就無處尋求後約了。所以主指責他的百姓說：日子將到，我要與以色列家和猶大家另立新約，不像我拉着他們祖宗的手，領他們出埃及的時候，與他們所立的約。因為他們不恆心守我的約，我也不理他們。這是主說的。主又說：那些日子以後，我與以色列家所立的約乃是這樣：我要將我的律法放在他們裏面，寫在他們心上；我要作他們的神；他們要作我的子民。他們不用各人教導自己的鄉鄰和自己的弟兄，說：你該認識主；因為他們從最小的到至大的，都必認識我。我要寬恕他們的不義，不再記念他們的罪愆。既說新約，就以前約為舊了；但那漸舊漸衰的，就必快歸無有了。

耶和華吩咐摩西說：「你要鑿出兩塊石版，和先前你摔碎的那版一樣；其上的字我要寫在這版上。

摩西挨近營前就看見牛犢，又看見人跳舞，便發烈怒，把兩塊版扔在山下摔碎了，

又把法版放在櫃裏，把槓穿在櫃的兩旁，把施恩座安在櫃上。

「今日，你們的首領、族長、長老、官長、以色列的男丁，你們的妻子兒女，和營中寄居的，以及為你們劈柴挑水的人，都站在耶和華－你們的神面前，

這是耶和華在摩押地吩咐摩西與以色列人立約的話，是在他和他們於何烈山所立的約之外。

又將約書念給百姓聽。他們說：「耶和華所吩咐的，我們都必遵行。」摩西將血灑在百姓身上，說：「你看！這是立約的血，是耶和華按這一切話與你們立約的憑據。」
