“用不义的手段建造自己房屋、用不公正的方法建筑自己楼房的，有祸了！他使自己的同胞白白作工，不把工资付给他们。他说：‘我要为自己建造宏伟的房屋、宽敞的楼房。’他又为房屋装设宽阔的窗户，用香柏木作镶板，并且漆上红色。难道你是用香柏木争胜来表明王的身分吗？你父亲不是也吃也喝，也施行公正和公义吗？那时他得享福乐。他为困苦和贫穷人伸冤，那时他得享福乐。这不是认识我的真义吗？”这是耶和华的宣告。“但你的眼你的心什么都不顾，只顾你的不义之财，只知流无辜人的血，施行欺压和迫害的事。”因此，论到犹大王约西亚的儿子约雅敬，耶和华这样说：“人必不为他哀伤，说：‘哀哉，我哥哥！’‘哀哉，我姊姊！’人必不为他哀伤，说：‘哀哉，主上！’‘哀哉，尊荣的王！’他像驴子一样被埋葬，被拖走，抛在耶路撒冷城门外。”

王烧了那载有巴录从耶利米口中录下的话的书卷以后，耶和华的话又临到耶利米，说：“你再取一书卷来，把犹大王约雅敬烧掉的前一书卷里原来的一切话，都写在书卷上面。论到犹大王约雅敬你要说：‘耶和华这样说：你烧了那书卷，说：你为什么在上面写着说：巴比伦王一定来，毁灭这地，使地上的人畜都灭绝呢？因此，耶和华论到犹大王约雅敬这样说：他的后代必没有人坐在大卫的王位上；他的尸体必抛弃在外，日间受炎热，夜间受寒霜。我必惩罚他和他的后裔，以及他臣仆的罪孽；我必使我对他们预告过的一切灾祸，临到他们和耶路撒冷的居民，以及犹大人的身上；他们却不听从。’”于是耶利米取了另一卷书卷，交给尼利亚的儿子文士巴录；巴录就从耶利米的口中，把犹大王约雅敬在火中烧掉的那书上的一切话，都写在书卷上，还加上很多类似的话。

在犹大王约西亚的儿子约雅敬作王的日子，耶和华有话临到耶利米，说：

约雅敬王和他所有的勇士，以及犹大的众领袖听见了乌利亚的话，王就想要杀他。乌利亚听见了，就惧怕，就逃往埃及去。约雅敬王打发人到埃及去，就是派亚革波的儿子以利拿单和一些人同到埃及去。他们就把乌利亚从埃及带出来，送到约雅敬王那里。王用刀杀死他，把他的尸体抛在平民的坟地里。
