耶和华说：“约西亚的儿子犹大王约雅敬啊，你有祸了！你以不公不义的手段建造宫廷殿宇，不给工人发工钱。你说要为自己建造宏伟的宫殿、宽敞的房间。你安上窗户，镶上香柏木，涂上红漆。难道你大肆使用香柏木就能显出你做王的气派吗？你父亲也吃也喝，但他秉公行义，所以他凡事顺利；他为困苦和贫穷的人申冤，所以他凡事顺利。这才是真正认识我。这是耶和华说的。可是，你一心贪图不义之财，滥杀无辜，横征暴敛。”因此，论到犹大王约西亚的儿子约雅敬，耶和华说：“没有人会为他哀悼说，‘唉，我的弟兄啊！唉，我的姊妹啊！’没有人会为他哀悼说，‘唉，主人啊！唉，他的尊荣！’你必像死驴一样被拖到耶路撒冷的城门外，暴尸荒野。”

王把耶利米口述、巴录记录的卷轴烧掉后，耶和华对耶利米说：“你再拿一卷轴，把犹大王约雅敬先前烧毁的卷轴上的话写下来。论到犹大王约雅敬，你要这样写，‘耶和华说，你把卷轴烧掉，还说为什么上面写着巴比伦王必来毁灭这地方和其中的人畜。所以耶和华说，犹大王约雅敬啊，你的子孙没有一人能登大卫的宝座，你的尸体必被弃之荒野，遭受烈日的暴晒和夜霜的侵袭。我要因你、你后裔和你臣仆的罪恶而惩罚你们。因为你们不听我的警告，我要给你们以及耶路撒冷和犹大的居民降下我说过的灾祸。’”于是，耶利米又拿了一个卷轴，交给尼利亚的儿子书记巴录，他按耶利米的口述，把犹大王约雅敬烧毁的那卷轴上的话都记下来，还增添了许多类似的话。
