From the time your ancestors departed the land of Egypt until now, I sent my servants the prophets to you again and again, day after day.

I sent my servants the prophets to you people over and over again warning you not to do this disgusting thing I hate.But the people of Jerusalem and Judah would not listen or pay any attention. They would not stop the wickedness they were doing nor quit sacrificing to other gods.

You must pay attention to the exhortations of my servants the prophets. I have sent them to you over and over again. But you have not paid any attention to them.

But the LORD had mercy on them and felt pity for them. He extended his favor to them because of the promise he had made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He has been unwilling to destroy them or remove them from his presence to this very day.

They abandoned the temple of the LORD God of their ancestors, and worshiped the Asherah poles and idols. Because of this sinful activity, God was angry with Judah and Jerusalem.The LORD sent prophets among them to lead them back to him. They warned the people, but they would not pay attention.God’s Spirit energized Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood up before the people and said to them,“ This is what God says:‘ Why are you violating the commands of the LORD? You will not be prosperous! Because you have rejected the LORD, he has rejected you!’”They plotted against him and by royal decree stoned him to death in the courtyard of the LORD’s temple.

They threw away the foreign gods they owned and worshiped the LORD. Finally the LORD grew tired of seeing Israel suffer so much.

The LORD solemnly warned Israel and Judah through all his prophets and all the seers,“ Turn back from your evil ways; obey my commandments and rules that are recorded in the law. I ordered your ancestors to keep this law and sent my servants the prophets to remind you of its demands.”

The LORD confronted Manasseh and his people, but they paid no attention.

How can I give you up, O Ephraim? How can I surrender you, O Israel? How can I treat you like Admah? How can I make you like Zeboiim? I have had a change of heart! All my tender compassions are aroused!
