And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of[ that which is] before the priests the Levites:And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment,[ to] the right hand, or[ to] the left: to the end that he may prolong[ his] days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.

Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day[ that] I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:

And they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul;That whosoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.

And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient.

And Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.

And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that[ was] before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.And he read therein before the street that[ was] before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people[ were attentive] unto the book of the law.And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah,[ and] Meshullam.And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people;( for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:

Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his princes,[ even] to Benhail, and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.And with them[ he sent] Levites,[ even] Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tobadonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests.And they taught in Judah, and[ had] the book of the law of the LORD with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.

And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out,[ and] set in order many proverbs.The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and[ that which was] written[ was] upright,[ even] words of truth.

The small and great are there; and the servant[ is] free from his master.

Then said Solomon, The LORD hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.But I have built an house of habitation for thee, and a place for thy dwelling for ever.And the king turned his face, and blessed the whole congregation of Israel: and all the congregation of Israel stood.And he said, Blessed[ be] the LORD God of Israel, who hath with his hands fulfilled[ that] which he spake with his mouth to my father David, saying,Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.But the LORD said to David my father, Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou didst well in that it was in thine heart:Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.The LORD therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.And in it have I put the ark, wherein[ is] the covenant of the LORD, that he made with the children of Israel.

Then Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath given me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he rent his clothes.

Ye shall not respect persons in judgment;[ but] ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment[ is] God’s: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring[ it] unto me, and I will hear it.

And the king commanded all the people, saying, Keep the passover unto the LORD your God, as[ it is] written in the book of this covenant.

Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of the chariots that[ were] with him, saying, Fight ye not with small or great, save only with the king of Israel.

Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof,[ even] all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah:
