And they entered into the covenant to seek Jehovah, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and with all their soul;and that whosoever would not seek Jehovah, the God of Israel, should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.

And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the broad place that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which Jehovah had commanded to Israel.And Ezra the priest brought the law before the assembly, both men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.And he read therein before the broad place that was before the water gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women, and of those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Uriah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchijah, and Hashum, and Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam.And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people( for he was above all the people); and when he opened it, all the people stood up.

Also in the third year of his reign he sent his princes, even Ben- hail, and Obadiah, and Zechariah, and Nethanel, and Micaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah;and with them the Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob- adonijah, the Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, the priests.And they taught in Judah, having the book of the law of Jehovah with them; and they went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught among the people.

And further, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he pondered, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.The Preacher sought to find out acceptable words, and that which was written uprightly, even words of truth.

The small and the great are there: And the servant is free from his master.

Then spake Solomon, Jehovah hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.But I have built thee a house of habitation, and a place for thee to dwell in for ever.And the king turned his face, and blessed all the assembly of Israel: and all the assembly of Israel stood.And he said, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, who spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hands fulfilled it, saying,Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be prince over my people Israel:but I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there, and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel.But Jehovah said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thy heart to build a house for my name, thou didst well that it was in thy heart:nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.And Jehovah hath performed his word that he spake; for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as Jehovah promised, and have built the house for the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel.And there have I set the ark, wherein is the covenant of Jehovah, which he made with the children of Israel.

And Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read therein before the king.And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he rent his clothes.

Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; ye shall hear the small and the great alike; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s: and the cause that is too hard for you ye shall bring unto me, and I will hear it.

And the king commanded all the people, saying, Keep the passover unto Jehovah your God, as it is written in this book of the covenant.

Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.

Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah.
