In the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, he began to seek the God of his father David. In his twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of high places, Asherah poles and idols.

He removed the poles used to worship the female god named Asherah. He also removed the statues of other false gods.

年輕時要記住你的創造主，不要等到衰老的歲月來臨時才哀歎：「我的日子毫無樂趣。」

青年如何保持純潔呢？就是要遵守你的話。

我要毀滅你們的邱壇，拆掉你們的香壇，把你們的屍體堆在你們毫無氣息的神像上。我厭惡你們。

「我兒所羅門啊，你要認識你父親的上帝耶和華，誠心樂意地事奉祂，因為祂洞察人心，知道人一切的心思意念。倘若你尋求祂，祂必讓你尋見；倘若你背棄祂，祂必永遠丟棄你。
