知我譴責斯邑、爰及民人、爾則中心畏懼、自怨自艾、裂衣泣哭於我前、我允爾祈、

聞我指此處及其居民所言、爾則中心敬服、於我前自卑、裂衣、哭於我前、故我俯聽爾、使爾平康歸爾列祖、歸爾墓中、我所將降於此處及其居民之諸災、不使爾目睹之、此乃主所言、使者返、復言於王、○

Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before God when you heard what he spoke against this place and its people, and because you humbled yourself before me and tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the Lord.

The Lord says,“ Your heart was tender. You made yourself humble in my sight. You heard what I spoke against this place and its people. So you made yourself humble. You tore your royal robes and wept. And I have heard you,” announces the Lord.

Say this to the king of Judah who sent you to inquire of the LORD:‘ This is what the LORD God of Israel says: As for the words that you heard,because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they would become a desolation and a curse, and because you have torn your clothes and wept before me, I myself have heard’— this is the LORD’s declaration.

His prayer and how God was receptive to his prayer, and all his sin and unfaithfulness and the sites where he built high places and set up Asherah poles and carved images before he humbled himself, they are written in the Events of Hozai.

But he gives greater grace. Therefore he says: God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.Be miserable and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.

My hand made all these things, and so they all came into being. This is the LORD’s declaration. I will look favorably on this kind of person: one who is humble, submissive in spirit, and trembles at my word.

The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit. You will not despise a broken and humbled heart, God.

When he was in distress, he sought the favor of the LORD his God and earnestly humbled himself before the God of his ancestors.

Didn’t Hezekiah himself remove his high places and his altars and say to Judah and Jerusalem,“ You must worship before one altar, and you must burn incense on it”?“‘ Don’t you know what I and my predecessors have done to all the peoples of the lands? Have any of the national gods of the lands been able to rescue their land from my power?
