you must bring everything I command you— your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, your sacred offerings, and your offerings to fulfill a vow— to the designated place of worship, the place the Lord your God chooses for his name to be honored.

But now I have chosen Jerusalem as the place for my name to be honored, and I have chosen David to be king over my people Israel.’”

May you watch over this Temple night and day, this place where you have said,‘ My name will be there.’ May you always hear the prayers I make toward this place.

Manasseh also removed the foreign gods and the idol from the Lord’s Temple. He tore down all the altars he had built on the hill where the Temple stood and all the altars that were in Jerusalem, and he dumped them outside the city.

These officers talked about the God of Jerusalem as though he were one of the pagan gods, made by human hands.

During the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, Josiah began to seek the God of his ancestor David. Then in the twelfth year he began to purify Judah and Jerusalem, destroying all the pagan shrines, the Asherah poles, and the carved idols and cast images.He ordered that the altars of Baal be demolished and that the incense altars which stood above them be broken down. He also made sure that the Asherah poles, the carved idols, and the cast images were smashed and scattered over the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.

“ The people of Judah have sinned before my very eyes,” says the Lord.“ They have set up their abominable idols right in the Temple that bears my name, defiling it.

The Lord said to him,“ I have heard your prayer and your petition. I have set this Temple apart to be holy— this place you have built where my name will be honored forever. I will always watch over it, for it is dear to my heart.
