so that your eyes may watch over this temple night and day, toward the place where you said,“ My name will be there,” and so that you may hear the prayer that your servant prays toward this place.

They spoke against the God of Jerusalem like they had spoken against the gods of the peoples of the earth, which were made by human hands.

In the eighth year of his reign, while he was still a youth, Josiah began to seek the God of his ancestor David, and in the twelfth year he began to cleanse Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the Asherah poles, the carved images, and the cast images.Then in his presence the altars of the Baals were torn down, and he chopped down the shrines that were above them. “ For the Judeans have done what is evil in my sight.” This is the LORD’s declaration.“ They have set up their abhorrent things in the house that bears my name in order to defile it.

The LORD said to him: I have heard your prayer and petition you have made before me. I have consecrated this temple you have built, to put my name there forever; my eyes and my heart will be there at all times.
