去事奉敬拜別的神，也拜日頭或月亮、或是任何天象、是我所沒有吩咐拜的；

這一切事既已作完，所有在場的以色列眾人就都出去、到猶大各城市，把崇拜柱子打碎，將亞舍拉神木砍下；又從猶大、便雅憫、以法蓮、瑪拿西遍地、將邱壇和祭壇全都拆毁；於是以色列眾人都回本城，各歸自己的地業去。

他們起來，把在耶路撒冷的祭壇和一切燒香的壇、盡都除掉，扔在汲淪谿谷中。

智慧比打仗的器械好，但一個作錯了事的人能把許多好事弄壞。

他把邱壇廢去，把崇拜柱子打碎，將亞舍拉神木砍下來，又將摩西所造的銅蛇砸碎，因為到那時以色列人還向銅蛇燻祭；那銅蛇叫做尼忽士但。

剪除那些在房頂上敬拜天上萬象的，剪除那些敬拜永恆主，指着永恆主來起誓、竟又指着米勒公來起誓的，

耶路撒冷的房屋、和猶大列王的宮殿，就是一切房屋，人在那些房頂上向天上萬象燻祭或向別的神澆奠祭的，都必像陀斐特地方一樣地被沾污。」』

從前猶大諸王所立拜偶像的祭司、在猶大各城的邱壇和耶路撒冷的四圍燻祭、現在王都罷免他們；也罷免那些向巴力和日月星辰跟天上萬象燻祭的人。他又從永恆主殿裏將亞舍拉神木搬出來到耶路撒冷外頭汲淪谿谷那裏，在汲淪谿谷燒它，打碎成灰，將灰撒在平民的墳墓上。

又恐怕你舉目望天，觀看着日、月、星辰、天上的萬象，就被勾引、去敬拜事奉它們，事奉永恆主你的上帝所分給普天下萬族之民的。

以色列人行了永恆主所看為壞的事、去服事眾巴力；離棄了領他們出埃及地的永恆主、他們列祖的上帝，去隨從別的神、四圍別族之民的神，去跪拜他們，來惹永恆主發怒。他們離棄了永恆主，去服事巴力和亞斯他錄。

這希西家豈不是曾經把他的邱壇和祭壇廢去，告訴猶大和耶路撒冷的人說：『你們要在一個祭壇前敬拜，要在那上頭燻祭』麼？

他們在各高岡上、各茂盛樹下築了邱壇，立了崇拜柱子、和亞舍拉神木。

而他們的兒女又懷念着他們的祭壇和亞舍拉神木，在茂盛樹旁、在高岡上、

拋散在日頭、月亮、和天上的萬象之下，就是他們從前所喜愛、所事奉、所隨從、所求問、所敬拜的；這些骸骨必不再被收殮，不再埋葬，就在地面上成為糞土。

上帝就轉臉不顧，任憑他們去服事天上的星軍，正如神言人們書上所寫的：「以色列家啊，你們四十年在野地裏何曾將犧牲和祭物供獻與我呢？

他重新建築了他父親希西家所毁壞的邱壇，又為外國神巴力立了幾座祭壇，又造了一根亞舍拉神木，像以色列王亞哈所行的，並且敬拜事奉了天上的萬象。

那人會有智慧或是愚昧，誰能知道呢？他竟要掌管我勞碌所得的一切，就是我在日光之下用智慧所勞碌得來的：這也是虛空。

他又把猶大諸王獻給日頭的馬廢去，那些馬是在進永恆主之殿的地方，近內侍拿丹米勒的房屋，在聖殿遊廊的廂房那裏；他並且用火將獻給日頭的車燒掉。

卻走以色列諸王的路。竟為巴力造了鑄像；並且在欣嫩子平谷中燒香，將兒女用火燒獻為祭，像永恆主從以色列人面前所驅逐的外國人所行可厭惡的事一樣；他並且在邱壇上、在山岡上、和各茂盛樹下宰牲燻祭。
