“你为耶和华你的神筑坛，不可在坛旁栽什么树木作为木偶。

去侍奉敬拜别神，或拜日头，或拜月亮，或拜天象，是主不曾吩咐的；

这事既都完毕，在那里的以色列众人就到犹大的城邑，打碎柱像，砍断木偶，又在犹大、便雅悯、以法莲、玛拿西遍地将邱坛和祭坛拆毁净尽。于是以色列众人各回各城，各归各地。

他们起来，把耶路撒冷的祭坛和烧香的坛尽都除去，抛在汲沦溪中。

智慧胜过打仗的兵器；但一个罪人能败坏许多善事。

他废去邱坛，毁坏柱像，砍下木偶，打碎摩西所造的铜蛇，因为到那时以色列人仍向铜蛇烧香。希西家叫铜蛇为铜块。

与那些在房顶上敬拜天上万象的，并那些敬拜耶和华指着他起誓，又指着玛勒堪起誓的，

耶路撒冷的房屋和犹大君王的宫殿是已经被玷污的，就是他们在其上向天上的万象烧香、向别神浇奠祭的宫殿房屋，都必与陀斐特一样。’”

从前犹大列王所立拜偶像的祭司，在犹大城邑的邱坛和耶路撒冷的周围烧香，现在王都废去，又废去向巴力和日、月、行星，并天上万象烧香的人；又从耶和华殿里将亚舍拉搬到耶路撒冷外汲沦溪边焚烧，打碎成灰，将灰撒在平民的坟上；

又恐怕你向天举目观看，见耶和华你的神为天下万民所摆列的日月星，就是天上的万象，自己便被勾引敬拜侍奉它。

以色列人行耶和华眼中看为恶的事，去侍奉诸巴力，离弃了领他们出埃及地的耶和华他们列祖的神，去叩拜别神，就是四围列国的神，惹耶和华发怒；并离弃耶和华，去侍奉巴力和亚斯他录。

这希西家岂不是废去耶和华的邱坛和祭坛，吩咐犹大与耶路撒冷的人说：‘你们当在一个坛前敬拜，在其上烧香’吗？

因为他们在各高冈上，各青翠树下筑坛，立柱像和木偶。

他们的儿女记念他们高冈上、青翠树旁的坛和木偶。

抛散在日头、月亮，和天上众星之下，就是他们从前所喜爱、所侍奉、所随从、所求问、所敬拜的。这些骸骨不再收殓，不再葬埋，必在地面上成为粪土；

神就转脸不顾，任凭他们侍奉天上的日月星辰，正如先知书上所写的说：‘以色列家啊，你们四十年间在旷野，岂是将牺牲和祭物献给我吗？

重新建筑他父希西家所毁坏的邱坛，又为巴力筑坛，做亚舍拉像，效法以色列王亚哈所行的，且敬拜侍奉天上的万象；

那人是智慧是愚昧，谁能知道？他竟要管理我劳碌所得的，就是我在日光之下用智慧所得的。这也是虚空。

又将犹大列王在耶和华殿门旁、太监拿单米勒靠近游廊的屋子、向日头所献的马废去，且用火焚烧日车。

却行以色列诸王的道，又铸造巴力的像，并且在欣嫩子谷烧香，用火焚烧他的儿女，行耶和华在以色列人面前所驱逐的外邦人那可憎的事；并在邱坛上、山冈上、各青翠树下献祭烧香。
