The rulers of Babylon sent messengers to him. They asked him about the miraculous sign that had taken place in the land. Then God left Hezekiah to test him. God wanted to know everything in Hezekiah’s heart.

惟有一件事，就是巴比伦王差遣使者来见希西家，访问国中所现的奇事；这件事神离开他，要试验他，好知道他心内如何。

但当巴比伦诸侯差遣使者来见希西家，询问国中所发生的奇事时，上帝离开他，要考验他，好知道他心里的一切。

然而，当巴比伦的使者来见他，询问他有关这地方发生的奇迹时，上帝就让希西迦自行处理，为要试验他，好知道他内心如何。

所以巴比倫公侯的大使奉差來見希西家、要查問猶大地所發生的兆頭；在這件事上帝也放任希西家隨意而行，為的是要試驗他，好知道他內心所隱藏的是甚麼。

巴比倫王使臣既至、詢問斯土異跡、時上帝暫不祐希西家以試其心。

But when envoys were sent by the rulers of Babylon to ask him about the miraculous sign that had occurred in the land, God left him to test him and to know everything that was in his heart.

And so in the matter of the envoys of the princes of Babylon, who had been sent to him to inquire about the sign that had been done in the land, God left him to himself, in order to test him and to know all that was in his heart.

However, when ambassadors arrived from Babylon to ask about the remarkable events that had taken place in the land, God withdrew from Hezekiah in order to test him and to see what was really in his heart.

When the ambassadors of Babylon’s rulers were sent to him to inquire about the miraculous sign that happened in the land, God left him to test him and discover what was in his heart.

Even in the matter of the messengers of the rulers of Babylon, who were sent to him to inquire about the wonder that had happened in the land; God left him alone only to test him, so that He might know everything that was in his heart.

However, regarding the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, whom they sent to him to inquire about the wonder that was done in the land, God withdrew from him, in order to test him, that He might know all that was in his heart.

Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

When the ambassadors of Babylon’s rulers were sent to him to inquire about the miraculous sign that happened in the land, God left him to test him and discover what was in his heart.

Howbeit in[ the business of] the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that was[ done] in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all[ that was] in his heart.

So when the envoys arrived from the Babylonian officials to visit him and inquire about the sign that occurred in the land, God left him alone to test him, in order to know his true motives.

However concerning the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way. He guided you in the desert for these 40 years. He wanted to take your pride away. He wanted to test you to know what was in your hearts. He wanted to see whether you would obey his commands.

Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him,“ Abraham!”“ Here I am,” Abraham replied.

In those days Hezekiah became sick. He knew he was about to die. So he prayed to the Lord. And the Lord answered him. He gave him a miraculous sign.

He gave you manna to eat in the desert. Your people had never even known anything about manna before. The Lord took your pride away. He tested you. He did it so that things would go well with you in the end.

When a person is tempted, they shouldn’t say,“ God is tempting me.” God can’t be tempted by evil. And he doesn’t tempt anyone.

But now reach out your hand and strike down everything he has. Then I’m sure he will speak evil things against you. In fact, he’ll do it right in front of you.”The Lord said to Satan,“ All right. I am handing everything he has over to you. But do not touch the man himself.” Then Satan left the Lord and went on his way.

“ I am the vine. You are the branches. If you remain joined to me, and I to you, you will bear a lot of fruit. You can’t do anything without me.

Fire tests silver, and heat tests gold. But the Lord tests our hearts.

But who can live through the day when he comes? Who will be left standing when he appears? He will be like a fire that makes things pure. He will be like soap that makes things clean.He will act like one who makes silver pure. And he will purify the Levites, just as gold and silver are purified with fire. Then these men will bring proper offerings to the Lord.

At that time Marduk- Baladan, the king of Babylon, sent Hezekiah letters and a gift. He had heard that Hezekiah had been sick but had gotten well again. Marduk- Baladan was the son of Baladan.Hezekiah gladly received the messengers. He showed them what was in his storerooms. He showed them the silver and gold. He took them to where the spices and the fine olive oil were kept. He showed them where he kept all his weapons. And he showed them all his treasures. In fact, he showed them everything that was in his palace and in his whole kingdom.Then Isaiah the prophet went to King Hezekiah. Isaiah asked him,“ What did those men say? Where did they come from?”“ They came from a land far away,” Hezekiah said.“ They came to me from Babylon.”Isaiah asked,“ What did they see in your palace?”“ They saw everything in my palace,” Hezekiah said.“ I showed them all my treasures.”Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah,“ Listen to the message of the Lord who rules over all. He says,‘ You can be sure the time will come when everything in your palace will be carried off to Babylon. Everything the kings before you have stored up until this day will be taken away. There will not be anything left,’ says the Lord.‘ Some of the members of your family line will be taken away. They will be your own flesh and blood. They will include the children who will be born into your family line. And they will serve the king of Babylon in his palace.’ ”“ The message the Lord has spoken through you is good,” Hezekiah replied. He thought,“ There will be peace and safety while I’m still living.”

I will put this third in the fire. I will make them as pure as silver. I will test them like gold. They will call out to me. And I will answer them. I will say,‘ They are my people.’ And they will say,‘ The Lord is our God.’ ”

She called out,“ Samson! The Philistines are attacking you!” He woke up from his sleep. He thought,“ I’ll go out just as I did before. I’ll shake myself free.” But he didn’t know that the Lord had left him.

Hezekiah had said to Isaiah,“ You say the Lord will heal me. You say that I’ll go up to his temple on the third day from now. What will the sign be to prove he’ll really do that?”Isaiah answered,“ The Lord will do what he has promised. Here is his sign to you. Do you want the shadow the sun makes to go forward ten steps? Or do you want it to go back ten steps?”“ It’s easy for the shadow to go forward ten steps,” said Hezekiah.“ So have it go back ten steps.”Then Isaiah the prophet called out to the Lord. And the Lord made the shadow go back ten steps. It went back the ten steps it had gone down on the stairway Ahaz had made.At that time Marduk- Baladan, the king of Babylon, sent Hezekiah letters and a gift. He had heard that Hezekiah had been sick. Marduk- Baladan was the son of Baladan.Hezekiah received the messengers. He showed them everything in his storerooms. He showed them the silver and gold. He showed them the spices and the fine olive oil. He showed them where he kept his weapons. And he showed them all his treasures. In fact, he showed them everything in his palace and in his whole kingdom.

Don’t turn your face away from me. Don’t turn me away because you are angry. You have helped me. God my Savior, don’t say no to me. Don’t desert me.

Lord, you have seen what is in my heart. You know all about me.You know when I sit down and when I get up. You know what I’m thinking even though you are far away.

So you must not listen to what that prophet or dreamer has said. The Lord your God is testing you. He wants to know whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Your troubles have come in order to prove that your faith is real. Your faith is worth more than gold. That’s because gold can pass away even when fire has made it pure. Your faith is meant to bring praise, honor and glory to God. This will happen when Jesus Christ returns.

“‘ “Here is a sign from me. It will show you that I will heal you, just as I promised I would.The shadow that was made by the sun has gone down ten steps on the stairway of Ahaz. I will make it go back up those ten steps.” ’ ” So the shadow went back up the ten steps it had gone down.

Don’t send me away from you. Don’t take your Holy Spirit away from me.Give me back the joy that comes from being saved by you. Give me a spirit that obeys you so that I will keep going.

My God, keep me going as you have promised. Then I will live. Don’t let me lose all hope.Take good care of me, and I will be saved. I will always honor your orders.

Then the Lord said to Satan,“ Have you thought about my servant Job? There isn’t anyone on earth like him. He is honest. He does what is right. He has respect for God and avoids evil. You tried to turn me against him. You wanted me to destroy him without any reason. But he still continues to be faithful.”Satan replied,“ A man will give everything he has to save himself. So Job is willing to give up the lives of his family to save his own life.But now reach out your hand and strike his flesh and bones. Then I’m sure he will speak evil things against you. In fact, he’ll do it right in front of you.”The Lord said to Satan,“ All right. I am handing him over to you. But you must spare his life.”

God, see what is in my heart. Know what is there. Test me. Know what I’m thinking.See if there’s anything in my life you don’t like. Help me live in the way that is always right.
