But Hezekiah’s heart was proud and he did not respond to the kindness shown him; therefore the Lord’s wrath was on him and on Judah and Jerusalem.

But Hezekiah’s heart was proud. He didn’t give thanks for the many kind things the Lord had done for him. So the Lord became angry with him. He also became angry with Judah and Jerusalem.

But Hezekiah did not make return according to the benefit done to him, for his heart was proud. Therefore wrath came upon him and Judah and Jerusalem.

Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to take a census of Israel.

and lest you say in your heart,“ My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.”

Jesus answered,“ Weren’t the ten cleansed? But where are the nine?Were there none found who returned to give glory to God, except this foreigner?”

but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. You have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which don’t see, or hear, or know; and you have not glorified the God in whose hand your breath is, and whose are all your ways.

Hezekiah listened to them, and showed them all the storehouse of his precious things, the silver, the gold, the spices, and the precious oil, and the house of his armor, and all that was found in his treasures. There was nothing in his house, or in all his dominion, that Hezekiah didn’t show them.

either three years of famine; or three months to be consumed before your foes, while the sword of your enemies overtakes you; or else three days the sword of Yahweh, even pestilence in the land, and Yahweh’s angel destroying throughout all the borders of Israel. Now therefore consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me.’”David said to Gad,“ I am in distress. Let me fall, I pray, into Yahweh’s hand; for his mercies are very great. Don’t let me fall into man’s hand.”So Yahweh sent a pestilence on Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell.God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it. As he was about to destroy, Yahweh saw, and he relented of the disaster, and said to the destroying angel,“ It is enough. Now withdraw your hand.” Yahweh’s angel was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.David lifted up his eyes, and saw Yahweh’s angel standing between earth and the sky, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces.David said to God,“ Isn’t it I who commanded the people to be counted? It is even I who have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand, O Yahweh my God, be against me, and against my father’s house; but not against your people, that they should be plagued.”

Take words with you, and return to Yahweh. Tell him,“ Forgive all our sins, and accept that which is good: so we offer our lips like bulls.

Behold, his soul is puffed up. It is not upright in him, but the righteous will live by his faith.

Is this the way you repay Yahweh, foolish and unwise people? Isn’t he your father who has bought you? He has made you and established you.

Again Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel, and he moved David against them, saying,“ Go, count Israel and Judah.”

You say to yourself that you have struck Edom; and your heart lifts you up to boast. Now stay at home. Why should you meddle with trouble, that you should fall, even you, and Judah with you?’”

David’s heart struck him after he had counted the people. David said to Yahweh,“ I have sinned greatly in that which I have done. But now, Yahweh, put away, I beg you, the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly.”When David rose up in the morning, Yahweh’s word came to the prophet Gad, David’s seer, saying,“ Go and speak to David,‘ Yahweh says,“ I offer you three things. Choose one of them, that I may do it to you.”’”So Gad came to David, and told him, and said to him,“ Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days’ pestilence in your land? Now answer, and consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me.”David said to Gad,“ I am in distress. Let us fall now into Yahweh’s hand; for his mercies are great. Let me not fall into man’s hand.”So Yahweh sent a pestilence on Israel from the morning even to the appointed time; and seventy thousand men died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba.When the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, Yahweh relented of the disaster, and said to the angel who destroyed the people,“ It is enough. Now withdraw your hand.” Yahweh’s angel was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.David spoke to Yahweh when he saw the angel who struck the people, and said,“ Behold, I have sinned, and I have done perversely; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand be against me, and against my father’s house.”

not a new convert, lest being puffed up he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.

Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility, to subject yourselves to one another; for“ God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time,

lest, when you have eaten and are full, and have built fine houses and lived in them;and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied;then your heart might be lifted up, and you forget Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;

By reason of the exceeding greatness of the revelations, that I should not be exalted excessively, a thorn in the flesh was given to me: a messenger of Satan to torment me, that I should not be exalted excessively.

What will I give to Yahweh for all his benefits toward me?I will take the cup of salvation, and call on Yahweh’s name.
