But Hezekiah’s heart was proud and he did not respond to the kindness shown him; therefore the Lord’s wrath was on him and on Judah and Jerusalem.

But Hezekiah’s heart was proud. He didn’t give thanks for the many kind things the Lord had done for him. So the Lord became angry with him. He also became angry with Judah and Jerusalem.

But Hezekiah did not make return according to the benefit done to him, for his heart was proud. Therefore wrath came upon him and Judah and Jerusalem.

But when he became strong, his heart was so proud that he acted corruptly, and he was untrue to the Lord his God, for he entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense.

Even in the matter of the messengers of the rulers of Babylon, who were sent to him to inquire about the wonder that had happened in the land; God left him alone only to test him, so that He might know everything that was in his heart.

You have indeed defeated Edom, and your heart is elated. Enjoy the glory and stay home; for why should you get involved in trouble so that you would fall, you and Judah with you?”

Then Satan stood up against Israel and incited David to count Israel.

Otherwise, you may say in your heart,‘ My power and the strength of my hand made me this wealth.’

But Jesus responded and said,“ Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine— where are they?Was no one found who returned to give glory to God, except this foreigner?”

but you have risen up against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your nobles, your wives, and your concubines have been drinking wine out of them; and you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor understand. But the God in whose hand are your life breath and all your ways, you have not glorified.

And Hezekiah listened to them, and showed them all his treasure house, the silver, the gold, the balsam oil, the scented oil, the house of his armor, and everything that was found in his treasuries. There was nothing in his house nor in all his realm that Hezekiah did not show them.

three years of famine, or three months to be swept away before your foes while the sword of your enemies overtakes you, or else three days of the sword of the Lord: a plague in the land, and the angel of the Lord destroying throughout the territory of Israel.’ Now, therefore, consider what answer I shall bring back to Him who sent me.”David said to Gad,“ I am in great distress; please let me fall into the hand of the Lord, for His mercies are very great. But do not let me fall into human hands.”So the Lord sent a plague on Israel; seventy thousand men of Israel fell.And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it; but as he was about to destroy it, the Lord saw and was sorry about the catastrophe, and said to the destroying angel,“ It is enough; now relax your hand.” And the angel of the Lord was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.Then David raised his eyes and saw the angel of the Lord standing between earth and heaven, with his drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, covered with sackcloth, fell on their faces.And David said to God,“ Is it not I who commanded to count the people? Indeed, I am the one who has sinned and acted very wickedly, but these sheep, what have they done? Lord, my God, just let Your hand be against me and my father’s household, and not against Your people as a plague.”

Take words with you and return to the Lord. Say to Him,“ Take away all guilt And receive us graciously, So that we may present the fruit of our lips.

“ Behold, as for the impudent one, His soul is not right within him; But the righteous one will live by his faith.

Is this what you do to the Lord, You foolish and unwise people? Is He not your Father who has purchased you? He has made you and established you.

Now the anger of the Lord burned against Israel again, and He incited David against them to say,“ Go, count Israel and Judah.”

You said,‘ Behold, you have defeated Edom.’ And your heart has lifted you up in boasting. Now stay home; why should you provoke trouble so that you, would fall, you and Judah with you?”

Now David’s heart troubled him after he had counted the people. So David said to the Lord,“ I have sinned greatly in what I have done. But now, Lord, please overlook the guilt of Your servant, for I have acted very foolishly.”When David got up in the morning, the word of the Lord came to Gad the prophet, David’s seer, saying,“ Go and speak to David,‘ This is what the Lord says:“ I am imposing upon you three choices; choose for yourself one of them, and I will do it to you.” ’ ”So Gad came to David and told him, and said to him,“ Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee for three months before your enemies while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days’ of plague in your land? Now consider and see what answer I shall return to Him who sent me.”Then David said to Gad,“ I am in great distress. Let us now fall into the hand of the Lord, for His mercies are great; but do not let me fall into human hands.”So the Lord sent a plague upon Israel from the morning until the appointed time, and seventy thousand men of the people from Dan to Beersheba died.When the angel extended his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, the Lord relented of the disaster and said to the angel who destroyed the people,“ It is enough! Now drop your hand!” And the angel of the Lord was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.Then David spoke to the Lord when he saw the angel who was striking down the people, and said,“ Behold, it is I who have sinned, and it is I who have done wrong; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let Your hand be against me and against my father’s house!”

and not a new convert, so that he will not become conceited and fall into condemnation incurred by the devil.

You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God is opposed to the proud, but He gives grace to the humble.Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time,

otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, and you build good houses and live in them,and when your herds and your flocks increase, and your silver and gold increase, and everything that you have increases,then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery;

Because of the extraordinary greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me— to keep me from exalting myself!

“ Son of man, say to the leader of Tyre,‘ The Lord God says this:“ Because your heart is haughty And you have said,‘ I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods In the heart of the seas’; Yet you are a mortal and not God, Although you make your heart like the heart of God—

Your heart was haughty because of your beauty; You corrupted your wisdom by reason of your splendor. I threw you to the ground; I put you before kings, That they may see you.

But when his heart was arrogant and his spirit became so overbearing that he behaved presumptuously, he was deposed from his royal throne, and his dignity was taken away from him.

By your great wisdom, by your trade You have increased your riches, And your heart is haughty because of your riches—

What shall I repay to the Lord For all His benefits to me?I will lift up the cup of salvation, And call upon the name of the Lord.
