So Sennacherib went back to his own land in shame. He went into the temple of his god. There some of his own sons, the people closest to him, killed him with their swords.

And the Lord sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty warriors and commanders and officers in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he came into the house of his god, some of his own sons struck him down there with the sword.

唉！多民鬨嚷，好像海浪匉訇；列邦奔騰，好像猛水滔滔；列邦奔騰，好像多水滔滔；但神斥責他們，他們就遠遠逃避，又被追趕，如同山上的風前糠，又如暴風前的旋風土。到晚上有驚嚇，未到早晨他們就沒有了。這是擄掠我們之人所得的分，是搶奪我們之人的報應。

當夜，耶和華的使者出去，在亞述營中殺了十八萬五千人。清早有人起來，一看，都是死屍了。亞述王西拿基立就拔營回去，住在尼尼微。一日在他的神尼斯洛廟裏叩拜，他兒子亞得米勒和沙利色用刀殺了他，就逃到亞拉臘地。他兒子以撒哈頓接續他作王。

惟獨你是可畏的！你怒氣一發，誰能在你面前站得住呢？

希律不歸榮耀給神，所以主的使者立刻罰他，他被蟲所咬，氣就絕了。

驕傲來，羞恥也來；謙遜人卻有智慧。

耶和華說：現在我要起來；我要興起；我要勃然而興。你們要懷的是糠粃，要生的是碎稭；你們的氣就是吞滅自己的火。列邦必像已燒的石灰，像已割的荊棘在火中焚燒。

亞摩斯的兒子以賽亞就打發人去見希西家，說：「耶和華－以色列的神如此說：『你既然求我攻擊亞述王西拿基立，我已聽見了。』

他要挫折王子的驕氣；他向地上的君王顯威可畏。

我是耶和華，這是我的名；我必不將我的榮耀歸給假神，也不將我的稱讚歸給雕刻的偶像。

我的神差遣使者，封住獅子的口，叫獅子不傷我；因我在神面前無辜，我在王面前也沒有行過虧損的事。」

他說：我的臣僕豈不都是王嗎？

耶和華賜極大的救恩給他所立的王，施慈愛給他的受膏者，就是給大衛和他的後裔，直到永遠。

天使向耶路撒冷伸手要滅城的時候，耶和華後悔，就不降這災了，吩咐滅民的天使說：「夠了！住手吧！」那時耶和華的使者在耶布斯人亞勞拿的禾場那裏。

耶和華的使者出去，在亞述營中殺了十八萬五千人。清早有人起來一看，都是死屍了。亞述王西拿基立就拔營回去，住在尼尼微。一日在他的神－尼斯洛廟裏叩拜，他兒子亞得米勒和沙利色用刀殺了他，就逃到亞拉臘地。他兒子以撒哈頓接續他作王。

耶和華必使人聽他威嚴的聲音，又顯他降罰的膀臂和他怒中的忿恨，並吞滅的火焰與霹雷、暴風、冰雹。亞述人必因耶和華的聲音驚惶；耶和華必用杖擊打他。耶和華必將命定的杖加在他身上；每打一下，人必擊鼓彈琴。打仗的時候，耶和華必掄起手來，與他交戰。原來陀斐特又深又寬，早已為王預備好了；其中堆的是火與許多木柴。耶和華的氣如一股硫磺火使他着起來。

亞摩斯的兒子以賽亞就打發人去見希西家，說：「耶和華－以色列的神如此說，你既然求我攻擊亞述王西拿基立，

世界的末了也要這樣。天使要出來，從義人中把惡人分別出來，丟在火爐裏；在那裏必要哀哭切齒了。」

尼布甲尼撒說：「沙得拉、米煞、亞伯尼歌的神是應當稱頌的！他差遣使者救護倚靠他的僕人，他們不遵王命，捨去己身，在他們神以外不肯事奉敬拜別神。

我要使他的仇敵披上羞恥；但他的冠冕要在頭上發光。

心中勇敢的人都被搶奪；他們睡了長覺，沒有一個英雄能措手。

看哪，主－萬軍之耶和華以驚嚇削去樹枝；長高的必被砍下，高大的必被伐倒。稠密的樹林，他要用鐵器砍下；黎巴嫩的樹木必被大能者伐倒。

若不然，怎能打敗我主臣僕中最小的軍長呢？你竟倚靠埃及的戰車馬兵嗎？

驕傲在敗壞以先；狂心在跌倒之前。

地上的君王、臣宰、將軍、富戶、壯士，和一切為奴的、自主的，都藏在山洞和巖石穴裏，向山和巖石說：「倒在我們身上吧！把我們藏起來，躲避坐寶座者的面目和羔羊的忿怒；

他心裏有智慧，且大有能力。誰向神剛硬而得亨通呢？

你仇敵的羣眾，卻要像細塵；強暴人的羣眾，也要像飛糠。這事必頃刻之間忽然臨到。萬軍之耶和華必用雷轟、地震、大聲、旋風、暴風，並吞滅的火焰，向她討罪。那時，攻擊亞利伊勒列國的羣眾，就是一切攻擊亞利伊勒和她的保障，並使她困難的，必如夢景，如夜間的異象；又必像飢餓的人夢中吃飯，醒了仍覺腹空；或像口渴的人夢中喝水，醒了仍覺發昏，心裏想喝。攻擊錫安山列國的羣眾也必如此。

因此，主－萬軍之耶和華必使亞述王的肥壯人變為瘦弱，在他的榮華之下必有火着起，如同焚燒一樣。以色列的光必如火；他的聖者必如火焰。在一日之間，將亞述王的荊棘和蒺藜焚燒淨盡；又將他樹林和肥田的榮耀全然燒盡，好像拿軍旗的昏過去一樣。他林中剩下的樹必稀少，就是孩子也能寫其數。

我又看見一位天使站在日頭中，向天空所飛的鳥大聲喊着說：「你們聚集來赴神的大筵席，可以吃君王與將軍的肉，壯士與馬和騎馬者的肉，並一切自主的為奴的，以及大小人民的肉。」
