So Sennacherib went back to his own land in shame. He went into the temple of his god. There some of his own sons, the people closest to him, killed him with their swords.

And the Lord sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty warriors and commanders and officers in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he came into the house of his god, some of his own sons struck him down there with the sword.

唉！多民哄嚷，好像海浪砰訇；列邦奔腾，好像猛水滔滔；列邦奔腾，好像多水滔滔；但神斥责他们，他们就远远逃避，又被追赶，如同山上的风前糠，又如暴风前的旋风土。到晚上有惊吓，未到早晨他们就没有了。这是掳掠我们之人所得的份，是抢夺我们之人的报应。

当夜，耶和华的使者出去，在亚述营中杀了十八万五千人。清早有人起来，一看，都是死尸了。亚述王西拿基立就拔营回去，住在尼尼微。一日在他的神尼斯洛庙里叩拜，他儿子亚得米勒和沙利色用刀杀了他，就逃到亚拉腊地。他儿子以撒哈顿接续他作王。

惟独你是可畏的！你怒气一发，谁能在你面前站得住呢？

希律不归荣耀给神，所以主的使者立刻罚他，他被虫所咬，气就绝了。

骄傲来，羞耻也来；谦逊人却有智慧。

耶和华说：“现在我要起来；我要兴起；我要勃然而兴。你们要怀的是糠秕，要生的是碎秸；你们的气就是吞灭自己的火。列邦必像已烧的石灰，像已割的荆棘在火中焚烧。”

亚摩斯的儿子以赛亚就打发人去见希西家，说：“耶和华以色列的神如此说：‘你既然求我攻击亚述王西拿基立，我已听见了。’

他要挫折王子的骄气；他向地上的君王显威可畏。

我是耶和华，这是我的名；我必不将我的荣耀归给假神，也不将我的称赞归给雕刻的偶像。

我的神差遣使者，封住狮子的口，叫狮子不伤我；因我在神面前无辜，我在王面前也没有行过亏损的事。”

他说：“我的臣仆岂不都是王吗？

耶和华赐极大的救恩给他所立的王，施慈爱给他的受膏者，就是给大卫和他的后裔，直到永远。

天使向耶路撒冷伸手要灭城的时候，耶和华后悔，就不降这灾了，吩咐灭民的天使说：“够了！住手吧！”那时耶和华的使者在耶布斯人亚劳拿的禾场那里。

耶和华必使人听他威严的声音，又显他降罚的膀臂和他怒中的忿恨，并吞灭的火焰与霹雷、暴风、冰雹。亚述人必因耶和华的声音惊惶；耶和华必用杖击打他。耶和华必将命定的杖加在他身上；每打一下，人必击鼓弹琴。打仗的时候，耶和华必抡起手来，与他交战。原来陀斐特又深又宽，早已为王预备好了；其中堆的是火与许多木柴。耶和华的气如一股硫磺火使他着起来。

亚摩斯的儿子以赛亚就打发人去见希西家，说：“耶和华以色列的神如此说，你既然求我攻击亚述王西拿基立，

世界的末了也要这样。天使要出来，从义人中把恶人分别出来，丢在火炉里；在那里必要哀哭切齿了。”

尼布甲尼撒说：“沙得拉、米煞、亚伯尼歌的神是应当称颂的！他差遣使者救护倚靠他的仆人，他们不遵王命，舍去己身，在他们神以外不肯侍奉敬拜别神。

我要使他的仇敌披上羞耻；但他的冠冕要在头上发光。”

心中勇敢的人都被抢夺；他们睡了长觉，没有一个英雄能措手。

看哪，主万军之耶和华以惊吓削去树枝；长高的必被砍下，高大的必被伐倒。稠密的树林，他要用铁器砍下；黎巴嫩的树木必被大能者伐倒。

若不然，怎能打败我主臣仆中最小的军长呢？你竟倚靠埃及的战车马兵吗？

骄傲在败坏以先；狂心在跌倒之前。

地上的君王、臣宰、将军、富户、壮士，和一切为奴的、自主的，都藏在山洞和岩石穴里，向山和岩石说：“倒在我们身上吧！把我们藏起来，躲避坐宝座者的面目和羔羊的忿怒；

他心里有智慧，且大有能力。谁向神刚硬而得亨通呢？

你仇敌的群众，却要像细尘；强暴人的群众，也要像飞糠。这事必顷刻之间忽然临到。万军之耶和华必用雷轰、地震、大声、旋风、暴风，并吞灭的火焰，向她讨罪。那时，攻击亚利伊勒列国的群众，就是一切攻击亚利伊勒和她的保障，并使她困难的，必如梦景，如夜间的异象；又必像饥饿的人梦中吃饭，醒了仍觉腹空；或像口渴的人梦中喝水，醒了仍觉发昏，心里想喝。攻击锡安山列国的群众也必如此。

因此，主万军之耶和华必使亚述王的肥壮人变为瘦弱，在他的荣华之下必有火着起，如同焚烧一样。以色列的光必如火；他的圣者必如火焰。在一日之间，将亚述王的荆棘和蒺藜焚烧净尽；又将他树林和肥田的荣耀全然烧尽，好像拿军旗的昏过去一样。他林中剩下的树必稀少，就是孩子也能写其数。

我又看见一位天使站在日头中，向天空所飞的鸟大声喊着说：“你们聚集来赴神的大筵席，可以吃君王与将军的肉，壮士与马和骑马者的肉，并一切自主的为奴的，以及大小人民的肉。”
