Do not be like your parents and your fellow Israelites, who were unfaithful to the Lord, the God of their ancestors, so that he made them an object of horror, as you see.

Don’t be like your parents and the rest of your people. They weren’t faithful to the Lord, the God of their people. That’s why he punished them. He made them look so bad that everyone was shocked when they saw them. You can see it for yourselves.

然而以色列家在曠野卻叛逆了我，不遵行我的律例，反而棄絕我的典章、（就是人若實行、必因此而活着的），大大瀆犯我的安息日。『我就心裏說我要在曠野將我的烈怒傾倒在他們身上，來消滅他們。然而我卻為我名的緣故而行事，免得我的名在列國人眼前被褻瀆，我領我人民出埃及就是在這些列國人眼前的。我並且我在曠野也曾向他們舉手起了誓、必不領他們進我所賜給他們、流奶與蜜之地，就是在列邦中最華美的；因為他們棄掉了我的典章，不遵行我的律例，反而瀆犯了我的安息日；他們的心總是隨從他們的偶像。雖然如此、我的眼還是顧惜他們，我不毁滅他們，不在曠野把他們全行滅盡。『我在曠野對他們的兒女說：不要遵行你們祖先的律例，不要謹守他們的典章，也不要因他們的偶像而玷污自己。
