So they established a decree to make proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beersheba even to Dan, that they should come to keep the passover unto the LORD God of Israel at Jerusalem: for they had not done[ it] of a long[ time in such sort] as it was written.

They decided to send a proclamation throughout Israel, from Beersheba to Dan, calling the people to come to Jerusalem and celebrate the Passover to the Lord, the God of Israel. It had not been celebrated in large numbers according to what was written.

They decided to send a message all through Israel. It was sent out from Beersheba all the way to Dan. The message invited the people to come to Jerusalem. It invited them to celebrate the Passover Feast to honor the Lord, the God of Israel. The Passover Feast hadn’t been celebrated by large numbers of people for a long time. It hadn’t been done in keeping with what was written in the law.

So they decreed to make a proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beersheba to Dan, that the people should come and keep the Passover to the Lord, the God of Israel, at Jerusalem, for they had not kept it as often as prescribed.

Moreover I make a decree what ye shall do to the elders of these Jews for the building of this house of God: that of the king’s goods,[ even] of the tribute beyond the river, forthwith expenses be given unto these men, that they be not hindered.And that which they have need of, both young bullocks, and rams, and lambs, for the burnt offerings of the God of heaven, wheat, salt, wine, and oil, according to the appointment of the priests which[ are] at Jerusalem, let it be given them day by day without fail:That they may offer sacrifices of sweet savours unto the God of heaven, and pray for the life of the king, and of his sons.Also I have made a decree, that whosoever shall alter this word, let timber be pulled down from his house, and being set up, let him be hanged thereon; and let his house be made a dunghill for this.And the God that hath caused his name to dwell there destroy all kings and people, that shall put to their hand to alter[ and] to destroy this house of God which[ is] at Jerusalem. I Darius have made a decree; let it be done with speed.

And Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters unto all the Jews that[ were] in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus,[ both] nigh and far,To stablish[ this] among them, that they should keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same, yearly,

Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD[ spoken] by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and[ put it] also in writing, saying,

Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered[ them] to you.

Write ye also for the Jews, as it liketh you, in the king’s name, and seal[ it] with the king’s ring: for the writing which is written in the king’s name, and sealed with the king’s ring, may no man reverse.Then were the king’s scribes called at that time in the third month, that[ is], the month Sivan, on the three and twentieth[ day] thereof; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded unto the Jews, and to the lieutenants, and the deputies and rulers of the provinces which[ are] from India unto Ethiopia, an hundred twenty and seven provinces, unto every province according to the writing thereof, and unto every people after their language, and to the Jews according to their writing, and according to their language.And he wrote in the king Ahasuerus’ name, and sealed[ it] with the king’s ring, and sent letters by posts on horseback,[ and] riders on mules, camels,[ and] young dromedaries:

Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them,[ Concerning] the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim[ to be] holy convocations,[ even] these[ are] my feasts.

Then were the king’s scribes called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king’s lieutenants, and to the governors that[ were] over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and[ to] every people after their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king’s ring.And the letters were sent by posts into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day,[ even] upon the thirteenth[ day] of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and[ to take] the spoil of them for a prey.The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published unto all people, that they should be ready against that day.The posts went out, being hastened by the king’s commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city Shushan was perplexed.

Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.I thought it good to shew the signs and wonders that the high God hath wrought toward me.How great[ are] his signs! and how mighty[ are] his wonders! his kingdom[ is] an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion[ is] from generation to generation.I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in mine house, and flourishing in my palace:I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise[ men] of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name[ was] Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom[ is] the spirit of the holy gods: and before him I told the dream,[ saying],O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods[ is] in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof.Thus[ were] the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof[ was] great.The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:The leaves thereof[ were] fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it[ was] meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it.I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven;He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit: let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his branches:Nevertheless leave the stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and[ let] his portion[ be] with the beasts in the grass of the earth:Let his heart be changed from man’s, and let a beast’s heart be given unto him; and let seven times pass over him.This matter[ is] by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.This dream I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof, forasmuch as all the wise[ men] of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but thou[ art] able; for the spirit of the holy gods[ is] in thee.Then Daniel, whose name[ was] Belteshazzar, was astonied for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spake, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation thereof, trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream[ be] to them that hate thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies.The tree that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto the heaven, and the sight thereof to all the earth;Whose leaves[ were] fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it[ was] meat for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the fowls of the heaven had their habitation:It[ is] thou, O king, that art grown and become strong: for thy greatness is grown, and reacheth unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and[ let] his portion[ be] with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;This[ is] the interpretation, O king, and this[ is] the decree of the most High, which is come upon my lord the king:That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?While the word[ was] in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven,[ saying], O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling[ shall be] with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’[ feathers], and his nails like birds’[ claws].

These[ are] the feasts of the LORD,[ even] holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons.

And there was no passover like to that kept in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet; neither did all the kings of Israel keep such a passover as Josiah kept, and the priests, and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel that were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
