以色列人出埃及地後四百八十年，所羅門作以色列王第四年西弗月，就是二月，他開工建造耶和華的殿。所羅門王為耶和華所建的殿，長六十肘，寬二十肘，高三十肘。殿的正堂前走廊長二十肘，與殿的寬度一樣，殿前寬十肘；他為殿做了有框嵌壁式的窗戶。靠着殿牆，圍着外殿和內殿的牆，周圍建造了廂房；下層寬五肘，中層寬六肘，第三層寬七肘。他在殿牆的周圍造坎，免得梁木插入殿牆裏。殿是用山中鑿成的石頭建的，所以建殿的時候，鎚子、斧子和別樣鐵器的響聲都沒有聽見。在殿右邊當中的廂房有門，可以從螺旋梯上到中層，再從中層上到第三層。所羅門完成殿的建造。他用香柏木作梁木和橫板，遮蓋殿頂。靠着整個殿所造的廂房，每層高五肘，香柏木的梁板擱在殿的牆坎上。耶和華的話臨到所羅門，說：「論到你所建的這殿，你若遵行我的律例，謹守我的典章，遵從我的一切誡命，行在其中，我必向你應驗我所應許你父親大衛的話。我必住在以色列人中間，並不丟棄我的百姓以色列。」所羅門完成殿的建造。

當日，迦得來到大衛那裏，對他說：「你上去，在耶布斯人亞勞拿的禾場上為耶和華立一座壇。」大衛就照着迦得的話，照着耶和華所吩咐的上去了。亞勞拿觀看，看見王和臣僕向他走過來。亞勞拿就出去，臉伏於地，向王下拜。亞勞拿說：「我主我王為何來到僕人這裏呢？」大衛說：「我要買你這禾場，為耶和華築一座壇，使瘟疫在百姓中停止。」亞勞拿對大衛說：「我主我王，你眼中看為好，就拿去獻祭。看，這裏有牛可以作燔祭，有打糧的器具和套牛的軛可以當作柴。王啊，這一切，亞勞拿都獻給王。」亞勞拿又對王說：「願耶和華－你的神悅納你。」王對亞勞拿說：「不，我一定要按價錢向你買；我不能用白白得來的東西作燔祭獻給耶和華－我的神。」大衛就用五十舍客勒銀子買了那禾場與牛。大衛在那裏為耶和華築了一座壇，獻燔祭和平安祭。耶和華垂聽了為那地的祈求，瘟疫就在以色列中停止了。
