Then Solomon began to build the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David. It was on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite, the place provided by David.

大卫吩咐人召集住在以色列地的外族人，又派石匠开凿石头，要建造神的殿。

以色列人出埃及地以后四百八十年，所罗门作以色列王的第四年西弗月，就是二月，他动工建造耶和华的殿。所罗门为耶和华所建的殿，长二十七公尺，宽九公尺，高十三公尺半。殿的前廊长九公尺，和殿的宽度一样，宽四公尺半。又为殿做了窗架子内宽外窄的窗户。紧靠殿墙，就是围着外殿和内殿的墙，他又建造平台，围绕殿的四周，做成厢房。厢房的下层宽两公尺两公寸；中层宽两公尺七公寸；第三层宽三公尺一公寸。他在殿墙外面四周留有暗架，所以梁木不必插入殿墙里。建殿是用采石场预备好了的石料；所以建殿的时候，在殿里听不到锤子、斧头或任何铁器的声音。厢房的下层门在殿的右边，人可以从螺旋形梯子上厢房的中层，再从中层上到第三层。所罗门建殿，建造完成以后，就用香柏木的栋梁和香柏木的木板做殿的天花板。靠着圣殿所建的厢房，每层高两公尺两公寸，都用香柏木的梁木与殿连接。耶和华的话临到所罗门说：“关于你正在建造的这殿，如果你遵行我的律例，实行我的典章，谨守我的一切诫命，并且照着去行，我就必向你实现我应许你父亲大卫的话。我必住在以色列人中间，也必不离弃我的子民以色列。”所罗门建殿，并且建造完成。

那一天，迦得来见大卫，对他说：“你上去，在耶布斯人亚劳拿的打禾场那里，为耶和华立一座祭坛。”大卫就照着迦得的话，正如耶和华所吩咐的，上去了。亚劳拿往下观看，看见王和他的臣仆正朝着他这边走过来，就出去迎接，脸伏于地向王叩拜。亚劳拿问：“我主我王为什么来到你仆人这里呢？”大卫回答：“是要向你买这打禾场，好为耶和华筑一座祭坛，使民间的瘟疫可以止住。”亚劳拿对大卫说：“我主我王看什么好，就拿去献上吧！看哪，这里有牛可以作燔祭，打禾的器具和套牛的轭可以当柴烧。王啊，这一切亚劳拿都奉给你。”亚劳拿又对王说：“愿耶和华你的神悦纳你！”王回答亚劳拿：“不！我一定要按价钱向你买，我不要用白白得来的作燔祭献给耶和华我的神。”于是大卫用五百七十克银子，买下了那打禾场和牛。于是大卫在那里为耶和华筑了一座坛，献上燔祭和平安祭。这样耶和华垂听了人们为那地的祷告，瘟疫就在以色列人中止住了。
