But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name[ was] Oded: and he went out before the host that came to Samaria, and said unto them, Behold, because the LORD God of your fathers was wroth with Judah, he hath delivered them into your hand, and ye have slain them in a rage[ that] reacheth up unto heaven.

I was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine hand: thou didst shew them no mercy; upon the ancient hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke.

For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.

And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over[ our] head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens.

And I am very sore displeased with the heathen[ that are] at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.

Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because that Edom hath dealt against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and hath greatly offended, and revenged himself upon them;Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also stretch out mine hand upon Edom, and will cut off man and beast from it; and I will make it desolate from Teman; and they of Dedan shall fall by the sword.And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom by the hand of my people Israel: and they shall do in Edom according to mine anger and according to my fury; and they shall know my vengeance, saith the Lord GOD.Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the Philistines have dealt by revenge, and have taken vengeance with a despiteful heart, to destroy[ it] for the old hatred;Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will stretch out mine hand upon the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethims, and destroy the remnant of the sea coast.And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I[ am] the LORD, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them.

For[ thy] violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou[ wast] as one of them.But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, thou shouldest not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid[ hands] on their substance in the day of their calamity;Neither shouldest thou have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither shouldest thou have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress.For the day of the LORD[ is] near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain,[ so] shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.

Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushanrishathaim eight years.

And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Because thou hast let go out of[ thy] hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people.

Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country,[ even] from Babylon.And he said, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All[ the things] that[ are] in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them.

And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top[ may reach] unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

Wherefore the LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them captives, and brought[ them] to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.

And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, strengthen thyself, and mark, and see what thou doest: for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.

Son of man, because that Tyrus hath said against Jerusalem, Aha, she is broken[ that was] the gates of the people: she is turned unto me: I shall be replenished,[ now] she is laid waste:Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I[ am] against thee, O Tyrus, and will cause many nations to come up against thee, as the sea causeth his waves to come up.

O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but[ it is] in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.

For they persecute[ him] whom thou hast smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded.

I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of thy hand: for thou hast filled me with indignation.Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable,[ which] refuseth to be healed? wilt thou be altogether unto me as a liar,[ and as] waters[ that] fail?

And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the LORD? therefore[ is] wrath upon thee from before the LORD.

Wherefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that[ the king] said unto him, Art thou made of the king’s counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.

And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.

And, behold, there came a prophet unto Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thine hand this day; and thou shalt know that I[ am] the LORD.
