In one day Pekah, the son of Remaliah, killed 120,000 soldiers in Judah. That’s because Judah had deserted the Lord, the God of their people.

If you forsake the Lord and serve foreign gods, he will turn and bring disaster on you and make an end of you, after he has been good to you.”

Say to him,‘ Be careful, keep calm and don’t be afraid. Do not lose heart because of these two smoldering stubs of firewood— because of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and of the son of Remaliah.Aram, Ephraim and Remaliah’s son have plotted your ruin, saying,

The Lord will cause you to be defeated before your enemies. You will come at them from one direction but flee from them in seven, and you will become a thing of horror to all the kingdoms on earth.

If you violate the covenant of the Lord your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, the Lord’s anger will burn against you, and you will quickly perish from the good land he has given you.”

( In those days the Lord began to send Rezin king of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah against Judah.)

All the nations will ask:“ Why has the Lord done this to this land? Why this fierce, burning anger?”And the answer will be:“ It is because this people abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their ancestors, the covenant he made with them when he brought them out of Egypt.They went off and worshiped other gods and bowed down to them, gods they did not know, gods he had not given them.

The head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is only Remaliah’s son. If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.’”

The earth is defiled by its people; they have disobeyed the laws, violated the statutes and broken the everlasting covenant.Therefore a curse consumes the earth; its people must bear their guilt. Therefore earth’s inhabitants are burned up, and very few are left.

However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you:

“ I will hide my face from them,” he said,“ and see what their end will be; for they are a perverse generation, children who are unfaithful.

He went out to meet Asa and said to him,“ Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.

Your wickedness will punish you; your backsliding will rebuke you. Consider then and realize how evil and bitter it is for you when you forsake the Lord your God and have no awe of me,” declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.

You have rejected me,” declares the Lord.“ You keep on backsliding. So I will reach out and destroy you; I am tired of holding back.

But rebels and sinners will both be broken, and those who forsake the Lord will perish.

Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you;for the Lord your God, who is among you, is a jealous God and his anger will burn against you, and he will destroy you from the face of the land.

Abijah and his troops inflicted heavy losses on them, so that there were five hundred thousand casualties among Israel’s able men.

And the Lord said to Moses:“ You are going to rest with your ancestors, and these people will soon prostitute themselves to the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will forsake me and break the covenant I made with them.And in that day I will become angry with them and forsake them; I will hide my face from them, and they will be destroyed. Many disasters and calamities will come on them, and in that day they will ask,‘ Have not these disasters come on us because our God is not with us?’
