大瑪色人敗之、亞哈斯遂祭其神曰、亞蘭列王所敬之神助彼、我不如祭其神、或亦助我、亞哈斯祭其神、使己與以色列人陷禍愈深、

He offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus, who had defeated him; for he thought,“ Since the gods of the kings of Aram have helped them, I will sacrifice to them so they will help me.” But they were his downfall and the downfall of all Israel.

Ahaz offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus. They had won the battle over him. Ahaz thought,“ The gods of the kings of Aram have helped them. So I’ll sacrifice to those gods. Then they’ll help me.” But those gods only caused his ruin. In fact, those gods caused the ruin of the whole nation of Israel.

For he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus that had defeated him and said,“ Because the gods of the kings of Syria helped them, I will sacrifice to them that they may help me.” But they were the ruin of him and of all Israel.

He offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus who had defeated him, for he said,“ Since these gods helped the kings of Aram, they will help me, too, if I sacrifice to them.” But instead, they led to his ruin and the ruin of all Judah.

亞瑪謝擊殺了以東人回來之後，同時把西珥的神像也帶來，立為自己的神，在它們面前叩拜，向它們燻祭。

於是那些知道自己的妻子曾向別的神燻祭的眾人、和那些站在那裏的眾婦女、一大羣大眾、以及那些住埃及地、巴忒羅的眾民、就回答耶利米說：『你奉永恆主的名對我們說的話，我們不聽你。我們一定要實行我們口中所說出的一切話：向天后燻祭，澆奠祭，按着我們和我們列祖、我們的王和首領在猶大城市和耶路撒冷街上素常所行的一樣；那時我們喫飽飯，享福樂，不見災禍呀。自從我們停止了向天后燻祭、澆奠祭，我們倒缺乏了一切，又因刀劍饑荒而滅絕了。』

然後風一掃，他們就過去、而有罪！嘿，這就是他們的勢力，他們所看為神的！

以色列啊，我要毁滅你；誰能幫助你呢？

它們好像瓜田裏的稻草人，不能說話，必須被扛着，因為不能跨步走。你們不要怕它們；它們不能降禍，也無力降福。』

王從大馬色回來；把祭壇細看；王走近祭壇前，就上到壇上，去燻他的燔祭和素祭，又澆他的奠祭，並且將他平安祭牲的血潑在祭壇上。

耶利米對眾民男女，對那些用這種話回答他、的眾民說：『你們和你們列祖、你們的王和首領、以及國中之民、在猶大城市和耶路撒冷街上所燒的燻祭，永恆主哪能不記得，那事哪能不湧上他心頭呢？永恆主因你們行為之敗壞、因你們所行可厭惡的事、再也不能容忍，故此你們的地才荒廢，成了令人驚駭、令人咒詛的對象，沒有人居住、就如今日一樣。因為你們燻祭，因為你們犯罪得罪了永恆主，沒有聽永恆主的聲音，他的律法、條例、法度、你們都沒有遵行，故此這災禍才到了你們，就如今日一樣。』耶利米又對眾民和眾婦女說：『你們在埃及地所有的猶大人哪，要聽永恆主的話哦。萬軍之永恆主以色列之上帝這麼說：你們婦女們都口中說、手裏作成了說：「我們一定要實行我們所許的願：向天后燻祭，澆奠祭」！那麼只管立定你們許的願吧！只管實行你們許的願詞吧！故此住埃及地所有的猶大人哪，你們要聽永恆主的話哦：永恆主說，看吧，我指着我的大名來起誓：在埃及全地我的名必不再被猶大族任何人的口稱呼說：「我指着永活的主永恆主來起誓。」看吧，我在儆醒留意着他們、以降禍而不降福；在埃及地所有的猶大人都必因刀劍饑荒而滅亡，直到滅盡。逃脫刀劍的、必從埃及地返回猶大地，人數很少；這樣所有進了埃及地要寄居在那裏的猶大餘剩之民就知道是誰的話立得住，是我的呢，還是他們的。

但悖逆的和犯罪的必一概破敗；離棄永恆主的必致消滅。
