He offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus, who had defeated him; for he thought,“ Since the gods of the kings of Aram have helped them, I will sacrifice to them so they will help me.” But they were his downfall and the downfall of all Israel.

Ahaz offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus. They had won the battle over him. Ahaz thought,“ The gods of the kings of Aram have helped them. So I’ll sacrifice to those gods. Then they’ll help me.” But those gods only caused his ruin. In fact, those gods caused the ruin of the whole nation of Israel.

For he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus that had defeated him and said,“ Because the gods of the kings of Syria helped them, I will sacrifice to them that they may help me.” But they were the ruin of him and of all Israel.

He offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus who had defeated him, for he said,“ Since these gods helped the kings of Aram, they will help me, too, if I sacrifice to them.” But instead, they led to his ruin and the ruin of all Judah.

亞瑪謝戮以東人而返、攜西珥族之神像、立為己神、跪拜其前、向之焚香、

凡知其妻焚香於他神者、與旁立諸婦、即居埃及巴忒羅之眾、聚為大會、答耶利米曰、爾託耶和華名諭我之言、我不聽從、我必成我口所言、焚香灌奠於天后、循我及我祖、我王、我牧伯、在猶大諸邑、及耶路撒冷街衢所為、蓋其時我儕足食晏安、不遘災禍、自我不焚香灌奠於天后、則無不缺乏、亡於鋒刃饑饉、

彼以己力為神、其衝突也、若風飄過、致干罪戾、

以色列歟、爾之敗亡、乃因敵我、即助爾者、

依椶樹之形鏇之、彼不能言、亦不能行、須人舁之、不能作惡、無能行善、爾勿畏之、

王自大馬色返、見壇、則進而獻祭於其上、焚其燔祭素祭及灌祭、以酬恩祭牲之血沃於壇、

耶利米謂答之之男女庶民曰、爾與爾祖、諸王牧伯、及斯土庶民、焚香於猶大諸邑、與耶路撒冷街衢、耶和華豈不記憶之、思念之、因爾所行之惡、所作可憎之事、耶和華不能復忍、故爾土地成為荒蕪、可駭可詛、無人居處、有如今日、爾曹焚香、獲罪於耶和華、不從耶和華之言、不遵其律例、典章法度、故遘此災、有如今日、○耶利米又謂庶民、及諸婦曰、居埃及地之猶大人、其聽耶和華言、萬軍之耶和華、以色列之上帝云、爾與爾妻、口所言者以手成之、曰、我必如我所許之願、焚香灌奠於天后、今可堅爾願而償之、居埃及地之猶大人、其聽耶和華言、耶和華曰、我已指我大名而誓、凡居埃及之猶大人、後必無一人、口道我名曰、我指維生之主耶和華而誓、我必儆醒而降以禍、不降以福、凡在埃及之猶大人、必亡於鋒刃饑饉、至於盡滅、脫於鋒刃、自埃及返猶大者、為數無幾、猶大遺民、入埃及而居者、必知伊誰之言得應、我之言歟、抑彼之言歟、

悖逆與獲罪者同亡、離棄耶和華者被滅、
