你心裏說：「嘿，你看！我擊敗了以東人了」，你就心高氣傲，自以為榮；現在你只好在家裏呆着吧；又為甚麼要惹禍，使你覆亡，使你和猶大國跟你一同覆亡呢？』

先狂傲、然後遭破毁；先有高傲之氣、然後就跌倒。

恐怕你富足了，你心裏就說：「這資財是我的力量我手的力氣給我得來的。」

看哪，其心中不正的必自吹自大，惟獨義人必因其忠信而活着。

那時你就心高氣傲，忘記了永恆主你的上帝、那把你從埃及地從為奴之家領出來的。

別讓人因樂於卑抑自己和拜天使的事而斷你們為不應得獎賞的了。這種人根據所見過的幻象、隨着自己肉慾之心思、徒然自吹自大，

利未的曾孫、哥轄的孫子、以斯哈的兒子可拉傲慢倔強，和如便子孫中以利押的兒子大坍、亞比蘭、與比勒的兒子安、

你固然是擊敗了以東人了，你卻心高氣傲。你只管自以為榮，在家裏呆着吧；又為甚麼要惹禍，使你覆亡，使你和猶大國跟你一同覆亡呢？』

『永恆主使以色列乘駕地之山丘，使他得喫田間的果品；又使他從磐石中咂蜜，從硬碞石中吸油。也喫牛奶酪、羊奶子，同羊羔的脂肪、和公綿羊，巴珊種的公牛和公山羊，同頂肥美的麥子；你也喝了血紅的葡萄汁起泡沫的酒。『但是你肥胖了，你粗壯了，你肚滿腸肥了！耶書崙肥胖了、就踢跳，背棄了造他的上帝，辱沒救他的磐石。

八月十五日、他心裏自定的月日、他自己上去，在他所造於伯特利的祭壇旁獻祭；他為以色列人定了節期，自己上去、在祭壇旁燻祭。那時有一個神人憑着永恆主的話從猶大來到伯特利；耶羅波安正站在祭壇旁要燻祭；神人憑着永恆主的話攻擊那祭壇而喊叫、說：『壇哪，壇哪，永恆主這麼說：「大衛王室必生個兒子、名叫約西亞；他必將邱壇的祭司、就是在你上面燻祭的、宰殺在你上面；人必將人的骨頭燒在你上面。」』那一天神人指出一個兆頭說：『看吧，這壇必破裂，壇上的灰必傾撒下來：這是永恆主所說到的兆頭。』耶羅波安王聽見神人的話、就是他攻擊伯特利的壇所喊叫的話，便從壇上伸手、說：『抓住他。』王所伸要拿住神人的手就枯乾了，不能縮回來。

於是他們各人就拿着自己的香爐，盛上火，放上香，去站在會棚的出入處；摩西、亞倫也這樣作。

當下又有火從永恆主那裏出來，把那獻香的二百五十個人也燒滅了。

明天你們要在永恆主面前、把火盛在爐中，把香放在上面；永恆主揀選誰，誰就分別為聖。利未子孫哪，你們過分了。』

王從大馬色回來；把祭壇細看；王走近祭壇前，就上到壇上，去燻他的燔祭和素祭，又澆他的奠祭，並且將他平安祭牲的血潑在祭壇上。
