以色列王耶羅波安執政第二十七年，猶大王亞瑪謝的兒子亞撒利雅登基。他十六歲登基，在耶路撒冷執政五十二年。他母親叫耶可利雅，是耶路撒冷人。亞撒利雅效法他父親亞瑪謝，做耶和華視為正的事。然而，他沒有拆除邱壇，人們仍在那裡獻祭燒香。耶和華懲罰他，使他終生患痲瘋病。他另住別宮，他兒子約坦攝政，掌管宮中事務，治理國家。亞撒利雅其他的事及其一切所作所為都記在猶大的列王史上。亞撒利雅與祖先同眠後，葬在大衛城他的祖墳裡。他兒子約坦繼位。

約阿施的兒子是亞瑪謝，亞瑪謝的兒子是亞撒利雅，亞撒利雅的兒子是約坦，

民眾殺死那些背叛亞們王的人，立他兒子約西亞為王。

亞撒生約沙法，約沙法生約蘭，約蘭生烏西雅，烏西雅生約坦，約坦生亞哈斯，亞哈斯生希西迦，

猶大民眾擁立亞瑪謝十六歲的兒子亞撒利雅為王。
