以色列王耶罗波安执政第二十七年，犹大王亚玛谢的儿子亚撒利雅登基。他十六岁登基，在耶路撒冷执政五十二年。他母亲叫耶可利雅，是耶路撒冷人。亚撒利雅效法他父亲亚玛谢，做耶和华视为正的事。然而，他没有拆除丘坛，人们仍在那里献祭烧香。耶和华惩罚他，使他终生患麻风病。他另住别宫，他儿子约坦摄政，掌管宫中事务，治理国家。亚撒利雅其他的事及其一切所作所为都记在犹大的列王史上。亚撒利雅与祖先同眠后，葬在大卫城他的祖坟里。他儿子约坦继位。

约阿施的儿子是亚玛谢，亚玛谢的儿子是亚撒利雅，亚撒利雅的儿子是约坦，

民众杀死那些背叛亚们王的人，立他儿子约西亚为王。

亚撒生约沙法，约沙法生约兰，约兰生乌西雅，乌西雅生约坦，约坦生亚哈斯，亚哈斯生希西迦，

犹大民众拥立亚玛谢十六岁的儿子亚撒利雅为王。
