But he didn’t put their children to death. He obeyed what is written in the Law, the Book of Moses. There the Lord commanded,“ Parents must not be put to death because of what their children do. And children must not be put to death because of what their parents do. People must die because of their own sins.”( Deuteronomy 24:16)

The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them.

“ In those days people will no longer say,‘ The parents have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.’Instead, everyone will die for their own sin; whoever eats sour grapes— their own teeth will be set on edge.

For everyone belongs to me, the parent as well as the child— both alike belong to me. The one who sins is the one who will die.

After the kingdom was firmly in his grasp, he executed the officials who had murdered his father the king.Yet he did not put the children of the assassins to death, in accordance with what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses where the Lord commanded:“ Parents are not to be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their parents; each will die for their own sin.”
