A proclamation was then issued in Judah and Jerusalem that they should bring to the Lord the tax that Moses the servant of God had required of Israel in the wilderness.

Then a message went out in Judah and Jerusalem. It said that the people should bring the tax to the Lord. God’s servant Moses had required Israel to pay that tax when they were in the desert.

And proclamation was made throughout Judah and Jerusalem to bring in for the Lord the tax that Moses the servant of God laid on Israel in the wilderness.

Then a proclamation was sent throughout Judah and Jerusalem, telling the people to bring to the Lord the tax that Moses, the servant of God, had required of the Israelites in the wilderness.

Therefore the king summoned Jehoiada the chief priest and said to him,“ Why haven’t you required the Levites to bring in from Judah and Jerusalem the tax imposed by Moses the servant of the Lord and by the assembly of Israel for the tent of the covenant law?” (niv)

After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two- drachma temple tax came to Peter and asked,“ Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?”“ Yes, he does,” he replied. When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak.“ What do you think, Simon?” he asked.“ From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes— from their own children or from others?”“ From others,” Peter answered.“ Then the children are exempt,” Jesus said to him.“ But so that we may not cause offense, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four- drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.” (niv)
