Although the Aramean army had come with only a few men, the Lord delivered into their hands a much larger army. Because Judah had forsaken the Lord, the God of their ancestors, judgment was executed on Joash.

The army of Aram had come with only a few men. But the Lord allowed them to win the battle over a much larger army. Judah had deserted the Lord, the God of their people. That’s why the Lord punished Joash.

一個敵人就可以威嚇你們一千個人，若五個敵人威嚇你們，你們都要逃跑了！以致你們所剩下的，必孤立如同山頂上的旗杆，岡陵上的旗幟。

耶戶討伐亞哈家的罪的時候，遇見了猶大的眾領袖和亞哈謝的兄弟的兒子，他們都是侍候亞哈謝的，耶戶把他們都殺了。

使刀劍臨到你們，報復背約的仇；聚集你們到城裡，好使我打發瘟疫在你們中間，把你們交在仇敵的手裡。

雖然無人追趕，他們卻像面臨刀劍，彼此撞跌；你們在仇敵面前，不能站立得住。

你們五個人必追趕一百人，一百人必追趕一萬人；你們的仇敵必在你們面前倒在刀下。

即使你們擊敗了那攻打你們的迦勒底全軍，他們中間只剩下一些受重傷的人，他們也必各從自己的帳棚裡起來，放火燒毀這城。’”

那時，神的靈臨到耶何耶大祭司的兒子撒迦利亞身上，他就站在比眾民高的地方，對他們說：“神這樣說：‘你們為甚麼違背耶和華的誡命，使你們不得亨通呢？因為你們離棄了耶和華，所以耶和華也離棄你們。’”

如果不是他們的磐石把他們出賣了，如果不是耶和華把他們交出來，一人怎能追趕一千人，二人怎能使萬人逃跑呢？

亞述啊！我怒氣的棍子，有禍了。他們手中拿著我忿怒的杖。我要差派他去攻擊一個不敬虔的國，吩咐他去攻擊我惱怒的子民，擄去掠物，搶奪擄物，把他們踐踏，像街上的泥土一樣。

所以你必在飢餓、乾渴、赤身露體和缺乏之中，去事奉耶和華派來攻擊你的仇敵；他必把鐵軛放在你的頸項上，直到把你消滅。

古實人和路比人不是有強大的軍隊嗎？戰車和馬兵不是極多嗎？只因你倚靠耶和華，耶和華就把他們交在你手裡。耶和華的眼目遍察全地，一心歸向他的，他必以大能扶助他們；你作這事太愚昧了。從今以後，你必常有戰爭。”

他們從遠地而來，從天邊而來。就是耶和華和他惱怒的工具，要毀滅這全地。

耶和華我的神，我的聖者啊！你不是自古就有的嗎？我們不會死的。耶和華啊！你派他們行審判。磐石啊！你立他們施懲罰。

現在你看，他們怎樣報復我們；他們要來把我們從你賜給我們承受作產業的地趕出去。我們的神啊，你不懲罰他們嗎？因為我們沒有力量抵擋這來攻打我們的大軍；我們也不知道該作甚麼；我們的眼睛只有仰望你。”
