Yet He sent prophets to them, to bring them back to the Lord; and they testified against them, but they would not listen.

Although the Lord sent prophets to the people to bring them back to him, and though they testified against them, they would not listen.

The Lord sent prophets to the people to bring them back to him. The prophets told the people what they were doing wrong. But the people wouldn’t listen.

Yet he sent prophets among them to bring them back to the Lord. These testified against them, but they would not pay attention.

And the Lord has sent to you all His servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, but you have not listened nor inclined your ear to hear.They said,‘ repent now everyone of his evil way and his evil doings, and dwell in the land that the Lord has given to you and your fathers forever and ever.

“ Listen to Me, My people; And give ear to Me, O My nation: For law will proceed from Me, And I will make My justice rest As a light of the peoples.

Who among you will give ear to this? Who will listen and hear for the time to come?

For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.’But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear;

to heed the words of My servants the prophets whom I sent to you, both rising up early and sending them( but you have not heeded),

Since the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have even sent to you all My servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them.Yet they did not obey Me or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck. They did worse than their fathers.

However I have sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying,“ Oh, do not do this abominable thing that I hate!”But they did not listen or incline their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense to other gods.

For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture, And the sheep of His hand. Today, if you will hear His voice:“ Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, As in the day of trial in the wilderness,

But he said to him,‘ If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’”

Yet the Lord testified against Israel and against Judah, by all of His prophets, every seer, saying,“ Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by My servants the prophets.”Nevertheless they would not hear, but stiffened their necks, like the necks of their fathers, who did not believe in the Lord their God.And they rejected His statutes and His covenant that He had made with their fathers, and His testimonies which He had testified against them; they followed idols, became idolaters, and went after the nations who were all around them, concerning whom the Lord had charged them that they should not do like them.

“ Nevertheless they were disobedient And rebelled against You, Cast Your law behind their backs And killed Your prophets, who testified against them To turn them to Yourself; And they worked great provocations.

He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you— The sure mercies of David.

Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.In fact, you bear witness that you approve the deeds of your fathers; for they indeed killed them, and you build their tombs.Therefore the wisdom of God also said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,’that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation,from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah who perished between the altar and the temple. Yes, I say to you, it shall be required of this generation.

Give ear and hear my voice, Listen and hear my speech.

And the Lord God of their fathers sent warnings to them by His messengers, rising up early and sending them, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place.But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against His people, till there was no remedy.

Then He began to tell the people this parable:“ A certain man planted a vineyard, leased it to vinedressers, and went into a far country for a long time.Now at vintage-time he sent a servant to the vinedressers, that they might give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the vinedressers beat him and sent him away empty-handed.Again he sent another servant; and they beat him also, treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed.And again he sent a third; and they wounded him also and cast him out.“ Then the owner of the vineyard said,‘ What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. Probably they will respect him when they see him.’But when the vinedressers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying,‘ This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.’So they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. Therefore what will the owner of the vineyard do to them?
