Although the Lord sent prophets to the people to bring them back to him, and though they testified against them, they would not listen.

The Lord sent prophets to the people to bring them back to him. The prophets told the people what they were doing wrong. But the people wouldn’t listen.

Yet he sent prophets among them to bring them back to the Lord. These testified against them, but they would not pay attention.

“ Pay attention to Me, My people, And listen to Me, My nation; For a law will go out from Me, And I will bring My justice as a light of the peoples.

Who among you will listen to this? Who will pay attention and listen in the time to come?

For the heart of this people has become dull, With their ears they scarcely hear, And they have closed their eyes, Otherwise they might see with their eyes, Hear with their ears, Understand with their heart, and return, And I would heal them.’But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear.

to listen to the words of My servants the prophets, whom I have been sending to you again and again, but you have not listened;

Since the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have sent you all My servants the prophets, sending them daily, again and again.Yet they did not listen to Me or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck; they did more evil than their fathers.

Yet I sent you all My servants the prophets again and again, saying,“ Oh, do not do this abominable thing which I hate.”But they did not listen or incline their ears to turn from their wickedness, so as not to burn sacrifices to other gods.

For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand. Today, if you will hear His voice,Do not harden your hearts as at Meribah, As on the day of Massah in the wilderness,

But he said to him,‘ If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’ ”

Yet the Lord warned Israel and Judah through all His prophets and every seer, saying,“ Turn back from your evil ways and keep My commandments and My statutes in accordance with all the Law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you through My servants the prophets.”However, they did not listen, but stiffened their neck like their fathers, who did not believe in the Lord their God.They rejected His statutes and His covenant which He made with their fathers, and His warnings which He gave them. And they followed idols and became empty, and followed the nations that surrounded them, about which the Lord had commanded them not to do as they did.

“ But they became rebellious and revolted against You, And threw Your Law behind their backs And killed Your prophets who had admonished them In order to bring them back to You, And they committed great blasphemies.

The one who has ears, let him hear.”

Incline your ear and come to Me. Listen, that you may live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you, According to the faithful mercies shown to David.

Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, and it was your fathers who killed them.So you are witnesses and you approve of the deeds of your fathers; because it was they who killed them, and you build their tombs.For this reason also, the wisdom of God said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill, and some they will persecute,so that the blood of all the prophets, shed since the foundation of the world, may be charged against this generation,from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the house of God; yes, I tell you, it shall be charged against this generation.’

Listen and hear my voice, Pay attention and hear my words.

Yet the Lord, the God of their fathers, sent word to them again and again by His messengers, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place;but they continually mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord rose against His people, until there was no remedy.

But He began to tell the people this parable:“ A man planted a vineyard and leased it to vine growers, and went on a journey for a long time.At the harvest time he sent a slave to the vine growers, so that they would give him his share of the produce of the vineyard; but the vine growers beat him and sent him away empty handed.And he proceeded to send another slave; but they beat him also and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty handed.And he proceeded to send a third; but this one too they wounded and threw out.Now the owner of the vineyard said,‘ What am I to do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.’But when the vine growers saw him, they discussed with one another, saying,‘ This is the heir; let’s kill him so that the inheritance will be ours.’And so they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What, then, will the owner of the vineyard do to them?
