然後當地所有的人民都來到巴力廟，把它拆毀，把它的壇和像完全打碎，又在祭壇前把巴力的祭司瑪坦殺了。耶何耶大祭司又設立官員管理耶和華的殿。他又率領眾百夫長、迦利人、衛兵和當地所有的人民，護送王從耶和華的殿下來，經衛兵的門進入王宮。這樣，約阿施就坐上了王位。

偶像卻必全然消逝。

他拆毀了祭壇，把亞舍拉和雕刻的偶像打碎，破碎了以色列全地所有的香壇，就回耶路撒冷去了。

眾人在他面前拆毀了巴力的祭壇，他親自打碎了壇上高高的香壇，又把亞舍拉、雕像和鑄像砍碎成灰，撒在向這些偶像獻過祭的人的墳上。

至於那先知，或作夢的人，你們要把他處死，因為他說了叛逆的話，叛逆了那領你們出埃及地，救贖你脫離為奴之家的耶和華你們的神，要你離棄耶和華你的神吩咐你走的道路。這樣你就把那惡從你們中間除掉了。“你的同母兄弟或你的兒女，你懷中的妻子或視你如自己性命的朋友，如果暗中引誘你，說：‘我們去事奉別的神吧。’就是你和你的列祖向來不認識的，是你們周圍各族的神，無論是離你近的，或是離你遠的神；從地這邊直到地那邊的神，你都不可依從他，也不可聽從他；你的眼不可顧惜他，你不可憐憫他，也不可袒護他；總要把他殺死，你要先向他動手，然後全民才動手打死他。

耶戶獻完了燔祭，就對衛兵和軍長說：“你們進去，殺死他們，一個也不讓他們出來。”衛兵和軍長於是用刀擊殺他們，又把他們的屍體拋出去，然後往巴力廟的內室去了。他們又把巴力廟內的神柱搬出去燒了。他們毀壞了巴力的神柱，又拆毀了巴力廟，作為廁所，直到今日。這樣，耶戶從以色列中消滅了巴力。

“到那日（這是萬軍之耶和華的宣告），我必從這地除掉偶像的名號，它們不再被人記念；我也必從這地除去假先知和污穢的靈。如果有人再說預言，他的親生父母必對他說：‘你不該活著，因為你奉耶和華的名說謊。’他說預言的時候，他的親生父母必把他刺死。

他廢去邱壇，打碎神柱，砍掉亞舍拉；他又打碎摩西所做的銅蛇，因為直到那些日子，以色列人仍然向它焚香，稱它作尼忽士但。

也要拆毀他們的祭壇，打碎他們的神柱；用火焚燒他們的亞舍拉，砍倒他們的神的雕像，並且把他們的名字從這地方除滅。
