儘撒母耳活着的日子、他都作以色列的士師。他年年去環遊伯特利、吉甲、米斯巴、到這些地方為以色列人審案。然後回到拉瑪，因為他的家在那裏；他也在那裏為以色列人審案；他並且在那裏給永恆主築了一座祭壇。

撒母耳對以色列全家說：『你們若一心回轉來歸向永恆主，把外人的神從你們中間除掉，也除掉亞斯他錄，立定心意歸向永恆主，單單事奉他，他就援救你們脫離非利士人的手。』以色列人就除掉眾巴力和亞斯他錄，單單事奉永恆主。

亞伯拉罕在別是巴栽了一棵垂絲柳樹，在那裏呼求耶和華永恆上帝的名。

於是以色列眾人都出來，從但到別是巴、以及基列地、會眾都聚集在米斯巴永恆主面前、如同一人。

現在我心中有意思要和永恆主以色列的上帝立約，好使他的烈怒轉離了我們。我的眾子啊，現在你們不要懈怠，因為永恆主是揀選了你們站在他面前伺候他，做伺候他向他燻祭的人。』

約書亞對他們說：『如果你們族民多，嫌以法蓮山地窄小，就可以上森林裏、在比利洗人利乏音人之地那裏自己砍樹木。』

他必行在主面前為先導，具有以利亞的精神和能力，使為父者的心回轉而向兒女，使悖逆的人回轉、到義人的明達中，為主豫備準備好了的子民。』

他必使父親的心回轉而向兒女，使兒女的心回轉而向父親，免得我來、以毁滅歸神的災禍擊打這地。』

當以色列中沒有王的日子，有一個利未人寄居在以法蓮山地的儘邊；他從猶大的伯利恆娶了一個女子為妾。
