亞撒聽了這些話，和俄德的兒子亞撒利雅先知所說的預言以後，就勇敢起來，在猶大、便雅憫全地，以及以法蓮山地奪取的各城，把可憎的偶像除去，又在耶和華殿的走廊前面，重新修造耶和華的祭壇。他又召聚了猶大和便雅憫所有的人，以及在他們中間寄居的以法蓮人、瑪拿西人、西緬人。以色列人看見了耶和華亞撒的神和他同在，就有很多人投奔亞撒。亞撒在位第十五年三月，他們聚集在耶路撒冷。那一天，他們從奪回來的戰利品當中，把七百頭牛，七千隻羊，獻給耶和華為祭，他們也立約，要一心一意尋求耶和華他們列祖的神。不尋求耶和華以色列的神的，無論男女老幼，都必處死。

撒母耳終生作以色列人的士師。他每年都巡迴伯特利、吉甲和米斯巴，在這些地方治理以色列人。然後，他回到拉瑪，因為他的家在那裡。他也在那裡治理以色列人，並且在那裡為耶和華築了一座祭壇。

於是撒母耳對以色列全家說：“如果你們一心歸向耶和華，就當把外族的神和亞斯他錄從你們中間除掉，專心歸向耶和華，單單事奉他，他必救你們脫離非利士人的手。”以色列人就除掉眾巴力和亞斯他錄，單單事奉耶和華。

亞伯拉罕在別是巴栽了一棵垂絲柳樹，就在那裡求告耶和華永活的神的名。

於是以色列眾人都出來，從但到別是巴，以及基列地的眾人，都在米斯巴耶和華面前聚集起來如同一人。

現在我心中有意要和耶和華以色列的神立約，好使他的震怒轉離我們。我的孩子們，你們現在不要懈怠，因為耶和華揀選了你們站在他面前事奉他，為要作他的僕人，向他燒香。”

約書亞對他們說：“如果你們族大人多，又嫌以法蓮山地過於窄小，就可以上森林區去，在比利洗人和利乏音人之地那裡自己砍伐樹木。”

他必有以利亞的靈和能力，行在主的前面，叫父親的心轉向兒女，叫悖逆的轉向義人的意念，為主安排那預備好了的人民。”

他要使父親的心轉向兒女，兒女的心轉向父親，免得我來擊打這地，以至完全毀滅。”（本章第1~6節在《馬索拉文本》為3:19~24）

在以色列中沒有王的日子，有一個利未人寄居在以法蓮山地的偏遠地區；他從猶大的伯利恆給自己娶了一個女子作妾。
