亚撒听了这些话，和俄德的儿子亚撒利雅先知所说的预言以后，就勇敢起来，在犹大、便雅悯全地，以及以法莲山地夺取的各城，把可憎的偶像除去，又在耶和华殿的走廊前面，重新修造耶和华的祭坛。他又召聚了犹大和便雅悯所有的人，以及在他们中间寄居的以法莲人、玛拿西人、西缅人。以色列人看见了耶和华亚撒的神和他同在，就有很多人投奔亚撒。亚撒在位第十五年三月，他们聚集在耶路撒冷。那一天，他们从夺回来的战利品当中，把七百头牛，七千只羊，献给耶和华为祭，他们也立约，要一心一意寻求耶和华他们列祖的神。不寻求耶和华以色列的神的，无论男女老幼，都必处死。

撒母耳终生作以色列人的士师。他每年都巡回伯特利、吉甲和米斯巴，在这些地方治理以色列人。然后，他回到拉玛，因为他的家在那里。他也在那里治理以色列人，并且在那里为耶和华筑了一座祭坛。

于是撒母耳对以色列全家说：“如果你们一心归向耶和华，就当把外族的神和亚斯他录从你们中间除掉，专心归向耶和华，单单事奉他，他必救你们脱离非利士人的手。”以色列人就除掉众巴力和亚斯他录，单单事奉耶和华。

亚伯拉罕在别是巴栽了一棵垂丝柳树，就在那里求告耶和华永活的神的名。

于是以色列众人都出来，从但到别是巴，以及基列地的众人，都在米斯巴耶和华面前聚集起来如同一人。

现在我心中有意要和耶和华以色列的神立约，好使他的震怒转离我们。我的孩子们，你们现在不要懈怠，因为耶和华拣选了你们站在他面前事奉他，为要作他的仆人，向他烧香。”

约书亚对他们说：“如果你们族大人多，又嫌以法莲山地过于窄小，就可以上森林区去，在比利洗人和利乏音人之地那里自己砍伐树木。”

他必有以利亚的灵和能力，行在主的前面，叫父亲的心转向儿女，叫悖逆的转向义人的意念，为主安排那预备好了的人民。”

他要使父亲的心转向儿女，儿女的心转向父亲，免得我来击打这地，以至完全毁灭。”（本章第1~6节在《马索拉文本》为3:19~24）

在以色列中没有王的日子，有一个利未人寄居在以法莲山地的偏远地区；他从犹大的伯利恒给自己娶了一个女子作妾。
