“ Be strong and very courageous. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

“ Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat!”Jesus replied,“ And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?For God said,‘ Honor your father and mother’ and‘ Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is‘ devoted to God,’they are not to‘ honor their father or mother’ with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:“‘ These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’”

He said to the Levites, who instructed all Israel and who had been consecrated to the Lord:“ Put the sacred ark in the temple that Solomon son of David king of Israel built. It is not to be carried about on your shoulders. Now serve the Lord your God and his people Israel.

The Levites— Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan and Pelaiah— instructed the people in the Law while the people were standing there.

For the law of Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath.”

Much in every way! First of all, the Jews have been entrusted with the very words of God.

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.

They arranged to meet Paul on a certain day, and came in even larger numbers to the place where he was staying. He witnessed to them from morning till evening, explaining about the kingdom of God, and from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets he tried to persuade them about Jesus.

You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me,

when all Israel comes to appear before the Lord your God at the place he will choose, you shall read this law before them in their hearing.Assemble the people— men, women and children, and the foreigners residing in your towns— so they can listen and learn to fear the Lord your God and follow carefully all the words of this law.Their children, who do not know this law, must hear it and learn to fear the Lord your God as long as you live in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Consult God’s instruction and the testimony of warning. If anyone does not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn.

When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent word to them, saying,“ Brothers, if you have a word of exhortation for the people, please speak.”

If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and traveled about, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea.

After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee.
