示撒率領戰車一千二百輛，馬兵六萬，和他一同從埃及出來的路比人、蘇基人和古實人，多得無法數算。

以色列人在猶大人面前逃跑；神把他們交在猶大人手裡。

義人的拯救是由耶和華而來；在患難的時候，他作他們的避難所。耶和華幫助他們，搭救他們；他搭救他們脫離惡人，拯救他們，因為他們投靠他。

那時有古實人謝拉率領一百萬軍隊，戰車三百輛，前來攻打猶大人；他來到了瑪利沙。於是亞撒出去迎戰；他們就在瑪利沙的洗法谷列陣相對。亞撒呼求耶和華他的神說：“耶和華啊，強弱懸殊，除你以外沒有別的幫助。耶和華我們的神啊，求你幫助我們。因為我們倚靠你，奉你的名去對抗這大軍。耶和華啊，你是我們的神，不要讓人勝過你。”於是耶和華在亞撒和猶大人面前，使古實人大敗，古實人就逃跑。

那時，先見哈拿尼來見猶大王亞撒，對他說：“因你倚靠亞蘭王，沒有倚靠耶和華你的神，所以亞蘭王的軍隊才可以脫離你的手。

那時，以色列人被擊敗了，猶大人獲得勝利，因為他們倚靠耶和華他們列祖的神。

耶和華要給受欺壓的人作保障，作患難時的避難所。認識你名的人必倚靠你；耶和華啊！你從未撇棄尋求你的人。
