羅波安住在耶路撒冷，他在猶大建造了多座設防城。他修築了伯利恆、以坦、提哥亞、伯．夙、梭哥、亞杜蘭、迦特、瑪利沙、西弗、亞多萊音、拉吉、亞西加、瑣拉、亞雅崙、希伯崙；這些都是猶大和便雅憫境內的設防城。他又鞏固這些設防城，在城裡設軍長，貯備糧食、油和酒。又在各城裝備了大盾牌和矛槍，使這些城市十分堅固。這樣，猶大和便雅憫都在他統治之下。

於是國中太平了四十年。後來基納斯的兒子俄陀聶死了。

所羅門又修築希蘭送給他的那些城市，使以色列人住在那裡。所羅門到哈瑪瑣巴去，佔領了那地方。所羅門又修築了在曠野的達莫，和他在哈瑪建造的一切貯藏貨物的城市。他又建造上伯．和崙和下伯．和崙，成了有牆、有門和有閂的設防城；又建造巴拉和所羅門擁有的一切貯藏貨物的城市，以及一切囤放戰車的城市，馬兵駐紮的城市，和所羅門在耶路撒冷、黎巴嫩，以及他統治的全境內喜愛建造的一切。

耶和華使以色列人得享平安，不受四圍仇敵的騷擾，已經有一段很長的日子；約書亞已經老了，年紀不小了。

他使戰爭止息，直到地極；他把弓折毀，把矛砍斷，把戰車用火焚燒。

這樣，從那天起，摩押就在以色列人的手下被制伏了，於是國中太平了八十年。

耶和華啊，願你所有的仇敵都這樣滅亡；願愛他的人像太陽出現，大有能力。”於是國中太平了四十年。

但是，現在耶和華我的神使我四境太平，沒有仇敵，也沒有災禍。
