亚比央与他的列祖同睡，人们把他埋葬在大卫城里，他的儿子亚撒继承他作王。以色列王耶罗波安第二十年，亚撒登基作犹大王。他在耶路撒冷作王四十一年。他的祖母名叫玛迦，是押沙龙的女儿。亚撒行耶和华看为正的事，像他祖大卫一样。他从国中除去庙妓，又除掉他列祖所做的一切偶像。并且废除他祖母玛迦太后的后位，因为她为亚舍拉做了可怕的偶像。亚撒把她那可怕的偶像砍下来，在汲沦溪旁烧掉。只是邱坛还没有废去；不过亚撒一生都完完全全归向耶和华。亚撒把他父亲所分别为圣和他自己所分别为圣的金银和器皿，都带到耶和华的殿里。亚撒与以色列王巴沙在世的日子，双方常有战争。以色列王巴沙上来攻击犹大，修筑拉玛，不准人进出到犹大王亚撒那里。于是亚撒把耶和华殿和王宫的府库里所剩下的金银，都交在他臣仆的手中。亚撒王差派他们到大马士革的亚兰王，希旬的孙子、他伯利们的儿子便．哈达那里去，说：“你父与我父之间曾经立过约，我也要与你立约。现在我把金银送给你作礼物，请你去废除与以色列王巴沙所立的约，好使他离开我。”便．哈达听从亚撒王的话，派遣他的众军长去攻击以色列的各城。他们攻破了以云、但、亚伯．伯．玛迦、基尼烈全境和拿弗他利全地。巴沙听见了，就停止修筑拉玛，仍然留在得撒。于是亚撒王通告犹大众人，没有一个人例外。他们就把巴沙修筑拉玛所用的石头和木料运走；亚撒王用那些材料来修筑便雅悯的迦巴和米斯巴。亚撒其余的一切事迹，他的英勇事迹，他所行的一切和他所建造的众城，不是都写在犹大列王的年代志上吗？可是他年老的时候，脚上却患了病。亚撒与他的列祖同睡，与他的列祖一同埋葬在他祖大卫的城里，他的儿子约沙法接续他作王。
