亞撒呼求耶和華－他的神說：「耶和華啊，惟有你能幫助軟弱的，勝過強盛的。耶和華－我們的神啊，求你幫助我們；因為我們仰賴你，奉你的名來攻擊這大軍。耶和華啊，你是我們的神，不要容人勝過你。」

艾城的人回頭一看，不料，城中煙氣沖天，他們就無力向左向右逃跑。那往曠野逃跑的百姓便轉身攻擊追趕他們的人。

車兵長看見約沙法便說，這必是以色列王，就轉過去與他爭戰。約沙法一呼喊，耶和華就幫助他，神又感動他們離開他。

以色列眾人都起來，在巴力‧他瑪擺陣，以色列的伏兵從馬利‧迦巴埋伏的地方衝上前去。有以色列人中的一萬精兵，來到基比亞前接戰，勢派甚是凶猛；便雅憫人卻不知道災禍臨近了。耶和華使以色列人殺敗便雅憫人。那日，以色列人殺死便雅憫人二萬五千一百，都是拿刀的。於是便雅憫人知道自己敗了。先是以色列人；因為靠着在基比亞前所設的伏兵，就在便雅憫人面前詐敗。伏兵急忙闖進基比亞，用刀殺死全城的人。以色列人預先同伏兵約定在城內放火，以煙氣上騰為號。以色列人臨退陣的時候，便雅憫人動手殺死以色列人，約有三十個，就說：「他們仍像前次被我們殺敗了。」當煙氣如柱從城中上騰的時候，便雅憫人回頭觀看，見全城的煙氣沖天。以色列人又轉身回來，便雅憫人就甚驚惶，因為看見災禍臨到自己了。他們在以色列人面前轉身往曠野逃跑；以色列人在後面追殺。那從各城裏出來的，也都夾攻殺滅他們。以色列人圍繞便雅憫人，追趕他們，在他們歇腳之處、對着日出之地的基比亞踐踏他們。

並要在患難之日求告我；我必搭救你，你也要榮耀我。

亞捫人出來，在城門前擺陣；瑣巴與利合的亞蘭人、陀伯人，並瑪迦人，另在郊野擺陣。約押看見敵人在他前後擺陣，就從以色列軍中挑選精兵，使他們對着亞蘭人擺陣。其餘的兵交與他兄弟亞比篩，對着亞捫人擺陣。約押對亞比篩說：「亞蘭人若強過我，你就來幫助我；亞捫人若強過你，我就去幫助你。我們都當剛強，為本國的民和神的城邑作大丈夫。願耶和華憑他的意旨而行！」於是，約押和跟隨他的人前進攻打亞蘭人；亞蘭人在約押面前逃跑。亞捫人見亞蘭人逃跑，他們也在亞比篩面前逃跑進城。約押就離開亞捫人那裏，回耶路撒冷去了。

你必不怕黑夜的驚駭，或是白日飛的箭，

法老臨近的時候，以色列人舉目看見埃及人趕來，就甚懼怕，向耶和華哀求。
