亚撒呼求耶和华他的神说：“耶和华啊，强弱悬殊，除你以外没有别的帮助。耶和华我们的神啊，求你帮助我们。因为我们倚靠你，奉你的名去对抗这大军。耶和华啊，你是我们的神，不要让人胜过你。”

艾城的人转身观看，看见城里浓烟冲天，就全身乏力，不能逃跑；往旷野逃跑的以色列人就转过来攻击追赶他们的人。

众战车队长看见约沙法，就都心里说：“这必是以色列王。”于是都绕过去攻击他。约沙法呼救，耶和华就帮助他；神又使敌人离开他。

以色列众人都从自己的地方起来，在巴力．他玛列阵；以色列的伏兵，从基比亚西边埋伏的地方冲出来。全以色列中的精兵，有一万人前来攻打基比亚，战争非常激烈；便雅悯人还不知道灾祸快要临到他们的身上了。耶和华在以色列人面前击败了便雅悯人；那天以色列人消灭便雅悯人，共二万五千一百名，都是拿刀的。这样，便雅悯人就看出自己被击败了。原来以色列人倚靠在基比亚前面设下的伏兵，就对便雅悯人诈败。伏兵急忙冲入基比亚，用刀击杀了全城的人。以色列人与伏兵预先约定，就是从城里放火，以烟气上升为号。以色列人在战场上撤退的时候，便雅悯人就动手杀人，刺死以色列人约三十个，心里说：“他们真的像头一次战阵一样，在我们面前被击败了。”当烟柱信号从城中上升的时候，便雅悯人就转身观看，只见全城烟火冲天。那时，以色列人又转身回来，便雅悯人就非常惊慌，因为看见灾祸临到自己身上了。他们在以色列人面前转身，向旷野的路上逃走，战争却紧随着他们；那些从各城里出来的人也在他们中间消灭他们。以色列人包围了便雅悯人，从挪哈（《马索拉文本》意思不明确，“从挪哈”或译﹕“在他们歇息之地”﹔现参照《七十士译本》翻译）追赶他们，践踏他们，直到基比亚（“基比亚”或作“迦巴”）对面日出之处。

在患难的日子，你呼求我。我必搭救你，你也必尊敬我。”

亚扪人出来，在城门前摆阵，琐巴和利合的亚兰人，陀伯人和玛迦人，也分别在郊野摆阵。约押看见自己前后受敌，就从以色列所有的精兵中，挑选一部分出来，使他们摆阵去迎战亚兰人，他把其余的人交在他兄弟亚比筛手下，使他们摆阵去迎战亚扪人。约押对亚比筛说：“如果亚兰人比我强，你就来帮助我。如果亚扪人比你强，我就去帮助你。你要刚强；为了我们的人民和我们神的众城镇，我们要刚强！愿耶和华成全他看为美的事。”于是约押和与他在一起的人前进，攻击亚兰人；亚兰人在约押面前逃跑。亚扪人看见亚兰人逃跑，他们也在亚比筛面前逃跑，逃进城里去了。约押就从亚扪人那里回来，回到耶路撒冷去了。

你不必害怕黑夜的惊恐，或是白日的飞箭；

法老走近的时候，以色列人举目观看，看见埃及人正追赶过来，就非常惧怕，向耶和华呼求。
