After Rehoboam’s position as king was established and he had become strong, he and all Israel with him abandoned the law of the Lord.

Rehoboam had made his position as king secure. He had become very strong. Then he turned away from the law of the Lord. So did all the people of Judah.

When the rule of Rehoboam was established and he was strong, he abandoned the law of the Lord, and all Israel with him.

So his fame spread far, for he was marvelously helped until he was strong.But when he became strong, his heart was so proud that he acted corruptly, and he was untrue to the Lord his God, for he entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense.

And the people of Judah did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they provoked Him to jealousy with their sins which they committed, more than all that their fathers had done.For they, too, built for themselves high places, memorial stones, and Asherim on every high hill and under every luxuriant tree.There were also male cult prostitutes in the land. They committed all the same abominations of the nations which the Lord dispossessed before the sons of Israel.

As they had their pasture, they became satisfied, And as they became satisfied, their heart became proud; Therefore they forgot Me.So I will be like a lion to them; Like a leopard I will lie in wait by the wayside.I will confront them like a bear deprived of her cubs, And I will tear open their chests; I will also devour them there like a lioness, As a wild animal would tear them to pieces.

And they will say,‘ Because they abandoned the Lord their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and they adopted other gods and worshiped and served them, for that reason the Lord has brought all this adversity on them.’ ”

You generation, look to the word of the Lord. Have I been a wilderness to Israel, Or a land of thick darkness? Why do My people say,‘ We are free to roam; We will no longer come to You’?

The statutes of Omri And every work of the house of Ahab are maintained, And you walk by their plans. Therefore I will give you up for destruction, And your inhabitants for derision, And you will suffer the taunting of My people.”

The leaders of Judah have become like those who displace a boundary marker; On them I will pour out My anger like water.Ephraim is oppressed, broken by judgment, Because he was determined to follow man’s command.

When you have eaten and are satisfied, you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land which He has given you.“ Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God by failing to keep His commandments, His ordinances, and His statutes which I am commanding you today;otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, and you build good houses and live in them,and when your herds and your flocks increase, and your silver and gold increase, and everything that you have increases,then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery;

“ Then it shall come about when the Lord your God brings you into the land that He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give you, great and splendid cities which you did not build,and houses full of all good things which you did not fill, and carved cisterns which you did not carve out, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant, and you eat and are satisfied,be careful that you do not forget the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

Judah did not keep the commandments of the Lord their God either, but they followed the customs which Israel had introduced.

“ But Jeshurun became fat and kicked— You have become fat, thick, and obstinate— Then he abandoned God who made him, And rejected the Rock of his salvation.

But as for the sons of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
